What are your hobbies?

As the title, what hobbies do you have whether they’re old, new, solo, clubs etc?

I’m in my 30s with one baby and would love to have a hobby/ hobbies to do in the little free time I do have and need some inspiration. I have been into fitness in the past and loved dancing when I was younger but a lot of the classes around me aren’t aimed at adults. I haven’t been able to exercise much since having a baby and during pregnancy, I will definitely be getting back into this but I’m aware it will be a long and slow process.

Would love to hear what you all enjoy whether it’s home based, fitness, crafts - anything and everything!

Anything to do with planes. Plane-spotting, especially vintage aircraft. Playing flight simulator.

I took flying lessons when my DD was about 3 years old and got my licence a year later.

It's expensive obviously so I only go flying maybe once a fortnight if the weather is good. Otherwise I hang around at the airfield on my days off and talk planes with coffee and cake. Happy days.

I like bodypump and reformer pilates. But I feel like they aren’t hobbies? It’s just a part of life and keeping fit for me.

Shodan · 15/03/2026 22:42

Outside the home:

Karate (21 years and still going)
Long walks listening to podcasts/audiobooks (currently listening to The Housemaid following a recommendation on here. I only allow myself to listen while walking or in the car, so I'm doing a lot of walks right now.)
Visiting castles/stately homes.
Random drives out with DP, no set agenda, to see what we discover.
Very reluctant gym goer.

Inside the home:

Sewing. I dressmake usually but have recently bought two books on making bags so am looking forward to trying that.
Crochet.
Embroidery.
Jewellery making.
Painting- I did a lot of acrylic pours at one time, now I'm looking to start watercolours.
DIY.
Reading.
Jigsaws.
Quilling (NOT quilting.)
Word puzzles online.
Candle making.
Resin jewellery/ornament making.
Gardening.

Basically I see something online/on FB reels and think 'Ooh. That looks fun. I'd like to have a go at that'. So I do. Some things stick, some things don't, but it's always fun trying.

@HushTheNoise Thanks for the suggestions but there just aren't the amount of people around here. Nearest orchestra of that type would be about 50 miles away, same for cello teacher.

The joys of rural living.

ShamblingMound · 15/03/2026 22:59

Karate
Running
Strength training (I use Apple Fitness, and I think it’s great)
Gaming - board games and video games, solo, with family, friends and new people I meet in the local board game cafe. A total stranger taught me a new game this week, and I played it with him and one other; I love going there so much.
Reading
I like building LEGO sets but haven’t done that for ages
Walking, but I really miss being able to do this with my dog, who died at the end of last year
I just turned 50 and was saying to a friend recently I feel I’ve got really into hobbies these past few years - she agreed …

lonelysootsprite · 15/03/2026 23:16

Reading, cross stitch, exercising, jigsaws and and occasional diamond painting.

FancyCatSlave · 15/03/2026 23:25

Mine was horses. Not currently in possession of my own as mine died, but will do again as I am just a shell of a person without an equine best friend.

I try other things but it’s not the same.

Currently my hobbies seem to be ruminating on the shit show that is the rest of my life, post divorce, and biting the skin off my fingers. I don’t rate either.

Pleasedontdothat · 15/03/2026 23:41

Riding, various horse-related chores, dog walks, dog agility, Pilates, choir, gym 3x a week, strength training at home, looking after my vegetable garden, reading, listening to podcasts, occasional baking. I used to go to the theatre and to comedy gigs with DH but haven’t gone since he died. I’ve been toying with the idea of taking up knitting - any tips on getting started?

I need to know more about witchcraft

Yes me too

XenoBitch · 15/03/2026 23:56

Collecting the stuff needed for hobbies, but then never doing them 😅

GlomOfNit · 16/03/2026 00:12

Definitely hoarding craft supplies! Grin

I'm envious of everyone who makes time for their hobbies rather than letting the internet/MN/social media steal it.

I read, but don't see that as a hobby as I've never not had a book on the go, not since I was about 6. But my intake has gone right down as I find the siren call of my phone pathetically hard to resist...

I go through phases of doing jigsaws while listening to audiobooks or podcasts, which I find really therapeutic. Jigsaws seem to tap into a meditative part of my brain and I should do it more often.

I make jewellery, I knit, sometimes I quilt, I used to draw and do a bit of painting but not for ages. I make mosaics. I recently started making book nooks but think about them/plan/amass supplies a lot more than I make!

What I wish I did as hobbies: keep fit/weight train/run/swim. Aside from swimming, I find fitness incredibly boring and quite painful. I really would like to get into something though. I wish I'd stuck to learning the piano from non-player level but I'm rubbish at practicing. I wish I could sing, I'd join a local group or choir. I wish I were into gardening, ours is a dump!

sillygoosemoose · 16/03/2026 00:26

I have LOADS of hobbies. I sometimes get frustrated that I don't have enough time for all of my hobbies haha. I knit, I watch TikTok, I read on my Kindle, I bake, I write ebooks to publish on Kindle (only two though so far), and my current hobby is losing a few kgs. Through that I have found a love for walking! So now I would class walking as a hobby too.

Mumofyellows · 16/03/2026 06:42

Walking my dogs, caring for my horse, swimming, reading, gardening in the summer. I had a gym membership and I do go but don’t enjoy it so won’t class it as a hobby!

LucyLoo1972 · 16/03/2026 06:51

after a big and horrific breakdown I started doing a lot of crafts. I do ceramics on the wheel, knitting and weaving. I also did a short floristry course and do a bit of that.

LucyLoo1972 · 16/03/2026 06:53

collecting contemporary art - also has worked as investment

blackheartsgirl · 16/03/2026 07:22

Crochet, mainly although occasionally knit (badly)
I’ve also diamond painted and I’m currently finishing off a cross stitch that my mum started in the years before she died. She had a habit of starting craft projects and never finishing them, there’s quite a few, possibly 30.

I used to walk a lot but knee arthritis has stopped a lot of that, got into cycling but then I broke my bike by falling into a bush and I can’t afford to replace the part I need at the moment
really struggling for keep fit ideas that don’t cost money or involves walking a lot.

ReinsOfBucephalus · 16/03/2026 08:37

Old man collecting
Egg smashing
And train ignoring

Greencloves · 16/03/2026 08:51

I do Pilates and weights (from home)
water colour painting
I like to read
Gardening
I love doing anything outside and going on nature walks or bike rides with the kids (not really a hobby)
I do all these on and off around 3 young kids and work. Something I’ve learnt is that making time for myself in important but also a hobby shouldn’t add extra stress to my life. So if I go a month without painting for example, thats ok!

HowardTJMoon · 16/03/2026 09:36

Hiking, tinkering with electronics, books, big jigsaws and going to gigs.

FlatErica · 16/03/2026 16:51

LadyLolaRuben · 15/03/2026 23:46

Yes me too

@LadyLolaRubenand @YelramBobI grew up in the countryside in the south west, and although I was brought up an atheist, I picked up lots of folk magic from both my mother’s (Welsh) and my father’s (Cornish) sides. We had tarot cards when we were kids in the late 70s; Dad subscribed to Man, Myth and Magic, they had friends who lived in communes and we’d go and stay with them, etc. i’ve always had a love for all that sort of gubbins. I joined Treadwell’s and I go to their classes, I go into the countryside regularly to forage or just to be with nature, I’ve learned charming and spell making and divination techniques, learned how to make incense and magical washes. Honestly, too much to list here but I find it all fascinating. It’s an effective form of both self-reflection and connection with the natural world for me, based in traditional methods.

butternut123 · 16/03/2026 19:16

I play cricket for a ladies team, started in the summer and it’s so fun! 🤩

I also go to the gym but mainly do classes and tennis.

Reading and lots of audio books while I potter around the house. Jigsaws but mainly at Christmas time as we always get them that time of year.
