Where would you go? Looking for inspo. Japan is already massively on the menu but I'm trying to work up the courage (solo female)

Go...

Maldives Ozen bolifushi

Swimmingatdawn · 14/03/2026 20:22

I'd stay in a summerhouse on an island in Sweden or Norway.

Borka · 14/03/2026 20:24

A Norwegian fjords cruise

MyCatPrefersPeaches · 14/03/2026 20:33

If someone else was paying, I’d be looking at Switzerland or perhaps Norway (maybe a cruise along the fjords).

Otherwise, with that time frame, the South of France, Andalucia or maybe Greece. I think I’d stick to Europe with less than two weeks.

minipie · 14/03/2026 20:45

Maldives, somewhere with great diving and snorkelling so I wouldn’t be bored. Diving is very social too.

If you aren’t a qualified diver this is a great opportunity. Do the “book learning” in the UK then you just do the dive part when there.

OpalFruitsYay · 14/03/2026 20:49

Peru to do the Inca Trail, then a luxury hotel to recuperate.

or Thailand and just enjoy the sun and delicious food.

mindutopia · 14/03/2026 21:47

Sri Lanka. It’s my favourite place in the world.

Japan though would be much easier if you aren’t used to travelling solo.

I have also walked a Camino solo and that was also great.

sillysmiles · 14/03/2026 21:54

Slovenia if staying in Europe
Costa Rica
Sri Lanka

Gardenquestion22 · 14/03/2026 22:14

At the moment I’d do Scandinavia…not quite sure where, but the food would be great!

HawkersWest · 14/03/2026 22:29

Costa Rica

dizzydizzydizzy · 14/03/2026 22:31

If it’s 7 to 10 days, it would have to be somewhere in Europe. I’d want to go to a luxury but small hotel in a quiet and beautiful place. Probably Switzerland. It
would be lovely to have a total break from life’s stresses and strains. I want facials, massages and amazing food.

The way I feel right now: an unbelievably luxurious hotel which has an incredible chef doing room service. I dont care where it is (not Dubai!) because I would only stay in my room and sleep, waking up occasionally to eat and drink fantastic wine. Maybe a nice mountain view from the window though? So perhaps the Canadian Rockies.

I feel you, I'm currently wallowing in my sorrows, failures, and a mid-life crisis. I would do this on the QM2 crossing the Atlantic. Just a view of the empty sea for days on end. With lovely food and fantastic wine.

Chewbecca · 14/03/2026 22:35

Damn, I missed the 7-10 days part. As long as it is at least May, I will go to a beautiful hotel on the med in that case. Possibly Corsica.

Miranda65 · 14/03/2026 22:35

Any of:
A luxurious sleeper train across Europe (but not the Orient Express, as there are no en suite loos!).
A Botswana safari.
A luxury trip to northern India, including Amritsar and Shimla, and staying at Wildflower Hall.
A suite at Claridge's.

SMM2020 · 14/03/2026 22:38

We looked at going to the Azores as a holiday before our eldest was born (Covid stopped that!) but definitely still on my bucket list

maddiemookins16mum · 14/03/2026 23:00

Prince Edward Island.

Villanousvillans · 14/03/2026 23:02

A yacht around Selimye Turkey.

MojoJojo71 · 14/03/2026 23:04

The Galápagos Islands

BebbanburgIsMine · 14/03/2026 23:25

A Viking site in Denmark, or York, because of its history and Viking connection.

Edinburgh because I love it so much. Bamburgh because of the same.

I have no interest in beaches or cities abroad.

MJOverInvestor · 14/03/2026 23:43

Splendido in Portofino, Treville in Positano, Passalacqua on Lake Como. Maybe all three.

Magnalux · 14/03/2026 23:50

Maldives staying in an over water villa

elm26 · 15/03/2026 00:10

Maldives.

sadmillenial · 15/03/2026 00:28

i'd amplify those saying Maldives (i had the BEST time with my best mate there)
Also Zanzibar - its a small island, but 7-10 days gives time to travel around it and still relax.
i also had 10 days in Madagascar, not enough to see the whole island but definitely an awesome time, especially if you can include Isle Aux Nattes (maybe the most peaceful and beautiful time ive had, we woke up to whales migrating past our bungalow...)
I also recommend Gambia - you can take trips into senegal for safari, and gambia is awesome for exploring small towns and meeting cool people, plus the beaches are great
Ive also had MANY holidays to Ghana, and would go back there in a heartbeat - start in Accra, then Elmina, then Cape Coast. Fantastic people, food and beaches

Gluedtogether · 15/03/2026 01:17

I'd go to Mars...
... if money was no object.

Wishitwas1996 · 15/03/2026 01:33

7-10 days isn’t very long. It depends what you want out of this holiday and what time of year.

im having a bit of stressful time at the moment and am a bit tired of talking to people. I’d probably get a direct flight to the Maldives if I had 10 days in the dry season and then take a suitcase full of books. This time last year I would have probably have gone to Boston & the driven around small New England coastal towns or something. Not feeling very US friendly now though.
