Advice/words of encouragement for someone on the seventh day of this terrible diarrhoea bug

Extremely glad I didn’t get d&v but the d is getting me down.

Started with muscle soreness and fatigue, then fever/chills, guts turned to liquid, lack of appetite and eventually some things tasting off, all of which have got variously better and worse throughout the week. (DH has had it too but not as badly or for so long. He’s also had headaches but that’s dehydration imo.)

I’m resting, eating unchallenging/starchy foods, drinking loads of fluids, taking probiotics (the last a Hail Mary* measure as I have no idea what strains might help but I feel like I have to do something).

An occasional single cocodamol helps with cramps but not output. I had hoped it would put a cork in but it does make me feel loads better.

Please help.

*Actual prayer next?

I believe the latest version of Covid is accompanied by diarrhoea. The sense of taste being off points to Covid. DS had it before Xmas ( he’s at uni) and we had a mild version around the same time. Covid infections seem to peak in Sept/Oct and Feb/March.
You no longer need to isolate but rest and plenty of fluids to stay hydrated is essential. A healthy balanced diet post infection will restore your gut biome. Probiotics take about the same time as a healthy diet does to repopulate the gut.

Sounds like covid when I had it a couple of years ago.

That sounds like covid - DH and I have had this, DH caught it first started last Fri and is just coming out of it today. I started Sunday, I got the covid rash so knew it was covid and got anti-virals from the GP as high risk started Wed. Stomach better from start Friday. Still have aches, pains, dizzy, weak, itchy, limited diet but so glad stomach part is over. I did take Imodium but it was beyond that.

I wondered if it was covid and a test was negative (I don’t think they’re detecting the current version). My first bout of covid (years ago) leaned heavily in an intestinal direction but this is the first time I’ve had the taste/smell changes.
