I'm packing for two weeks cruising in the Eastern Mediterranean. I keep thinking I've forgotten something......
What are your essential and more unusual holiday items ?

Prescription drugs/pain relief/immodium.

Plug converters!

Good thinking! I have several EU usb plugs that are a godsend, bought when abroad. Especially the fast speed ones.

We are going on a cruise in June (my first), so I'm finding this post interesting!

We are taking ALL the medications... just in case (we have multiple health issues) including strong painkillers as well as paracetamol, travel sickness pills, Immodium AND Dulcolax. Sunscreen. A hot water bottle for my back. A small hand held steamer to get the creases out of our clothes. My kindle. A small feather cushion because I hate non-feather pillows. Magnetic hooks. Big clothes pegs so we can dry swimming costumes. The only sweeteners I like, and the only decaf instant coffee I like, for our cabin. Small rechargeable hot brush for my hair.

The cruise we are going on has a craft room - I'm going to find out a bit more about it and maybe take some small crafting bits with me if everything isn't provided and they do things I am interested in.

DH may well take a camera. Both of our phones take good photos but he does like his camera.

Clothes, including for the formal nights, shoes, toiletries, passports, debit cards, chargers etc. of course. The cruise is all inclusive with tips already included so no cash required.

cluecu · 15/03/2026 09:30

Something we found useful was one of those things you hang over the bathroom door and it has loads of punches to put toiletries etc in. We stayed in a small cabin with limited space for stuff and it made things easy to find and the room not too cluttered. Think that was a tip from the cruise critic forum. Have a nice time 😊

cluecu · 15/03/2026 09:31

*pouches not punches 😂

Dontlletmedownbruce · 15/03/2026 11:21

Bras and swimsuits. My size is difficult to buy so absolutely need to have them with me.

Wonderknicks · 15/03/2026 11:25

Some of those giant pegs to peg down your towel in case it's windy. I could tell the experienced cruisers when I went.
Reusable straw for all those yummy cocktails, papers straws collapse too quickly.
Depending on the cruise line you might not need plug adaptors, so check.

PeonyBulb · 15/03/2026 11:30

There’s been a dress code for all the cruises I’ve been on so you’ll need formal and cocktail dress. Pretty sure men need a black suit for formal and another suit for smart casual/ cocktail. If it’s a large cruise ship they have shops and of course you’ll be stopping off at various ports as part of the trip so figure out if you need scarves to cover up with etc.

Edited

This, but with way more clothes, even for a week. Would rather have too many clothes than have to do laundry.

Would also add a few light jackets/cardigans. Either in case of cooler weather, cooler evenings or air conditioning in indoor spaces.

No formal wear needed on Celebrity, Smart casual is all that is required, so I won't be taking cocktail or formal dresses.

Magnetic hooks are a good call. I have now packed some.

A couple small things that people often overlook but have completely upgraded my comfort while travelling

  • nail clippers, if you travel for more than a long weekend a must,
  • hanging toiletry bag, avoid the wet bathroom counters
  • small foldable bag/tote bag, takes up no space but always comes a time when you wish you had a small bag to keep just your valuables handy, going to the pool, day trips etc.
  • one universal travel adapter with usb slots, buy a good one that can charge multiple devices at once and you can use it on all your future travels. Also a power bank if your phone dies quickly like mine :)

here’s the toiletry bag I use and love, with waterproof pockets, I’m sure you can find lots of options!
