Mother's Day Plans?

What are everyone's plans for Mother's Day this year? This is the first one I have spent as a single parent and I'm not quite sure how to spend it.

We didn't do anything for it previously, as my nasty ex thought it (and every other occassion) was a waste of time and money. No gifts, nothing.

This year I want to make a point of celebrating it for myself, but I'm not sure how. My mother will be with me, as well as my 2 young DC (under 5). My eldest DC is rather challenging due to to having additional needs, which I need to consider (a restaurant for instance, would be out of the question).

Any suggestions? Will be nice just to hear everybody's lovely upcoming plans, too.

We’re having a brunch at my mum’s house with everyone together! Easier and less stressful than a restaurant as I have 2 under 2!

How about a farm trip or something the kids will enjoy? Somewhere with a playground and a cafe?

I'm also going solo for the first time this year - taking mine for a hotel with child friendly pool stay and a trip to an arcade. They will love it, and I will enjoy doing this all for and by myself with them. Thought we’d get room service breakfast too and get a photo of us all cuddled up in bed.

My sister is doing dinner for me at hers , mainly because she wants my husband to do some diy for her . 🤣

I’ve booked for us to go to the zoo! Just me and my DD. I’ll pack our favourite picnic and we’ll make some nice memories together. She’s small, so wouldn’t do a restaurant well either. Thinking of you OP, the first one ‘alone’ is both odd and liberating. 🌸

It’s not the same as I’m not on my own, DH will help DD to mark the occasion so I’m lucky there. It’s a challenging day though as I’ve lost my mum, and weirdly even though I have DD now it brings back memories of the years of struggling with fertility too.

I’ve suggested we get out for a nice walk in the hills or by the coast if the weather is at all favourable, stopping somewhere for a hot chocolate and cake or ice cream maybe. If it pees it down all day which it looks like it’s going to near me we might have to think again.

If I were you I’d probably stock up on some really nice/ favourite/ special breakfast things - I always feel like a special breakfast makes it feel more like an occasion! And get some flowers to put on the table whilst you eat them.

Church and back home for lunch, haven't decided what I want for lunch yet but I'll pick something up the day before.

These all sound like really lovely plans; enjoy, everybody! Some great suggestions, too. I really like the idea of a day at the farm, it'll be entertainment for myself and my kids, and my own mum lol. Have a fantastic Mother's Day everyone; we all deserve it ❤️
