Went to Thailand today. I thought flights via Dubai etc were cancelled.

A relative of DH has flown to Thailand today from Manchester.
They landed in Dubai a couple of hours ago and are just waiting for the next flight to Thailand.
I asked if they were offered to change destination and they said that they still wanted to go
so wouldn't have changed or cancelled.
I thought planes were not flying to the middle east.
Their parents are worried sick.

Flights to Doha etc fully opened back up several days ago.

Funny enough I think there is a war in that region.

Both airports in Dubai have resumed operations today with limited flights.

Lesina · 09/03/2026 22:53

There are limited flights. They are lucky. Thailand is amazing and they will have a blast :)

tutugogo · 09/03/2026 22:56

They reopened for transit passengers today, prior they weren’t accepting them

tutugogo · 09/03/2026 22:56

@titchy Doha hasn’t reopened fully yet, nor has Bahrain

youalright · 09/03/2026 22:57

They've been flying for days. Someone I know flew back on Thursday.

No, they haven’t. Still limited.

No they didnt

Friendlygingercat · 10/03/2026 00:04

They will probably prioritise transit passengers,

They will probably prioritise transit passengers,

The opposite, in fact. Qatar, for example first opened only to those starting or ending in Doha.

DaisyDooley · 10/03/2026 11:43

Surely you realise that if it wasn’t safe the flights wouldn’t be going??
It’s not just the airline/airports choice to fly/open you know.
Airspace has to be open - who do you think decides that?
Iranian airspace is closed.

MmeWorthington · 10/03/2026 11:59

Who knows? Maybe they will have a long wait, maybe their journey home will be disrupted, maybe all will be OK.

My personal preference would not for my nearest and dearest to be in the air where missiles / drones could be, but people make their own decisions.
