Bananas like this?

For weeks now I’ve had bananas like this in my Tesco delivery. I haven’t ordered any for a bit. They only had these, no non organic or singles or anything.

Anyone else? What’s going on? These are the worst yet! Surely I shouldn’t have to put a note on the order saying “if they are the same colour as Shrek’s skin then don’t bother”?

Is there a picture coming or can we just imagine them?

tobee · 09/03/2026 17:56

Image under review!

It’s taking a while to review. Sort of defeats the point but that’s life

I'm guessing they are a long way away from being ripe?

tobee · 09/03/2026 18:00

Yes @onelumporthree. They might be yellow by, ooh I don’t know, Christmas?

Crikey, yes they are very green

How long does it take to ungreen them?

Dolallytats · 09/03/2026 18:02

Mine always seem to have splits in the skin....they are yellow though!!

FeelingSadToday1 · 09/03/2026 18:04

My last two deliveries the bananas have been yellow but humongous! This week my apples were like basketballs!! But no, never even seen a banana that green before!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/03/2026 18:05

I buy ripen-at-home bananas every week so that once my ready-to-eat bunch is gone there may be another one ready to eat. It doesn't always work. A few weeks ago I had to give up and throw a bunch away as it never ripened. Mostly they do, though, given a bit of time. They ripen better if they're with other fruit that's already ripe.

MarchUsername · 09/03/2026 18:06

I no longer get bananas online with Tesco cos they put them in the fridge and they go all gross.

BauhausOfEliott · 09/03/2026 18:16

They're very green but I always find bananas ripen really quickly so I'd rather have green ones than ones that were too ripe. I can see why you're annoyed though; I've seen limes less green than that.

Fair enough

I must be unusual then as I actively look for the green bananas. I much prefer them greener.

Happyjoe · 09/03/2026 18:28

I prefer them like this, then can eat them over a week. Sadly some supermarkets supply them this green and they never ripen.

DancingNotDrowning · 09/03/2026 18:36

I read recently that a banana disease is currently killing crops across Latin America & because bananas have been bred to be genetically identical this is causing significantly reduced stock. no idea how accurate that is but maybe your bananas are a supply issue

ChaliceinWonderland · 09/03/2026 19:37

This is why you shouldn't shop online.

onelumporthree · 09/03/2026 20:23

Handy tip for you @tobee

Put them in a paper bag with an apple (or a ripe banana if you actually have one! ).

tobee · 09/03/2026 23:22

Thanks for the replies. Thanks for the tip @onelumporthree. True @ChaliceinWonderlandgot into the habit during Covid as dh extremely clinically vulnerable and still do big shop online.

For me, the convenience of shopping online and having everything delivered far outweighs occasional issues with a bunch of bananas.
