I don’t put up Easter decorations - we just have things like a simnal cake and a nice bunch of flowers. it’s a naff American habit we could all do without as it encourages consumption and waste

It's neither naff nor 'American', so wind your judgey neck in.

Decorating for Easter is traditional all over continental Europe, with particularly strong traditions associated with decorating eggs.

I've never decorated for Easter but my brother and sister in law do and they don't have any kids! SIL is German, and apparently it's more of a thing there, though I only have her word for rhis? (They decorate for Halloween too - I think they are just really in to decorating for special occasions generally).

I like seeing their decorations, and often wish I was organised and house proud enough to do this myself.

Yes, the tradition is very strong in Germany.

I have a white ceramic Easter bunny who sports a lovely blue ceramic bow around his neck, and a set of tiny painted eggs that I hang on pussy willow sprigs. I have a willow wreath that is decorated with a bow made with pastel blue, pink, yellow, and white ribbons. These items are all at least thirty years old.

We never decorated when I was a child - barely even at Christmas - but I don't see why anyone would sniff at the idea. It is completely harmless, and doesn't necessarily involve tat.

God, no. Firstly, I'm a traditionalist and am very satisfied with some nice spring flowers, like daffs, or even just bluebells out of the garden, MIL will send us an Easter card. When the kids were little they might have made little Easter baskets in school, or there may have been a fluffy chick toy (you could make a pompom chick) or a bunny or something. But that's it as far as decorations go. I remember loving blowing eggs when I was about 10 and hand painting them, doing it all myself and making a little display. I thought I was really arty and fancy ha ha

Secondly, keeping celebrations simple one of the nicest thing about Easter, in my view, I love not feeling like I have to go mad decorating the house like at Christmas. It's lovely relaxed family time without all the pressures of Christmas.

Secondly, the world most DEFINITELY does not need more plastic tat, when you can decorate in a much more environmentally friendly way. The plastic shit exists solely to make Home Bargains, the Range etc a ton of profit, then gets shoved into the cupboard and forgotten about.

No one goes “mad” decorating the house. Traditionally small decorated eggs were hung on a sprig of pussy willow or similar. As I don’t like cutting trees I’ve got the small twig tree someone linked upthread where I hang my 50+ year old German Easter decorations. It literally takes up no more space nor requires more effort than a bunch of flowers and packs away in a shoe box.

You may not want to partake, but the hyperbole is ridiculous.
