Hello wise mumsnetters. please suggest somewhere for my DD to live. She’s been offered a job in M22. Doesn’t want to pay rent more than £1000. Suggestions welcome! TIA

Does she drive or will she be using public transport to commute?

Will she be wanting to house share or have a single occupancy place?

How important are the following to her:

  • general safety of area?
  • night life
  • green space
  • proximity to work
  • quality of accommodation over area

If she young the city centre and just get th tram

Preferably single occupancy. Safe area pls suggest somewhere. Does drive but willing to use public transport. Not bothered about night life but likes to eat out. Would prefer nice accommodation and nice area!

If she’s getting the tram try chorlton

Northenden/ Gatley/ Cheadle/ Heaton Mersey all nice and close to where she is working if she's genuinely not bothered about nightlife. Edgeley is popular with younger people buying at my work as it's good value so I assume rents are as well.

Will have a look thanks

I’d suggest wilmslow or Alderley edge, i
dont know Manchester that well, but my brother had lived in the city since university,
moved out to Wilmslow/Alderley Edge once he finished his training - quick look on Rightmove and there’s some 1 bed places in budget

SwayingInTime · 08/03/2026 20:36

Just had a look on Rightmove and weirdly West Didsbury seems better value than the closer more suburban areas (assume as more flats/ 1bed stock) and is lovely.

West Didsbury.
Its great for young people.

X post!

Does she drive op? If so then north Manchester is possibly cheaper and anywhere on the m60 Ringroad would get her to Wythenshawe easily enough. Failsworth and prestwich are decent areas

Thank you
