Stuck in rut at work

I've just turned 60 and would like to change careers in a different field. I have an admin background but would like a complete change and a face to face position if possible. Would retail or other customer service positions be feasible at my age? I am of average fitness and do like walking/hiking but would like to get fitter, rather than sit behind a desk all day.

Do you like museums?

I've noticed a lot of my local ones are advertising for 'welcome hosts' as they're heading towards busy season.

The only criteria I can see is 'good with people' and a 'keen interest in history'.

But the pay is around the same as retail.

There always appear to be jobs available in retail and yes, it is quite possible to change direction at any time of life.
Looking at vacancies in our local area, they come and go while ranging in everything from picking, shop floor, restocking both days & nights. Not just supermarkets, the retail parks & town centre are always looking.
Maybe they aren't desirable jobs any more?

When he stopped FT work, my OH picked up a little PT job in one of our local supermarkets and he was surprised at how many staff (FT & PT) had moved into retail after finishing careers elsewhere.

That's a great idea. Thank you @SaffronsMadAboutMe. I'm not naturally extrovert but I will definitely look into this I didn't realise a welcome host might be a paid role. I had assumed they were mainly volunteers.

I used to assume this too but my aunt who volunteers said that they need X amount of staff also, as there are certain things volunteers can't be in charge of such as compliance like fire alarm testing and a few other things she mentioned.

They also need staff to lead the volunteers.

Thank you @Nourishinghandcream . It's definitely good to know. I'm struggling to take the leap from a well paid job but stressful, to something I will enjoy. DH is encouraging me to retire but I think something in between is good. DH is slightly younger and still working.
