Pjs for slim waisted 4 year old

My child’s (M&S) pj bottoms often fall down as he is quite petite and slim waisted. He is average height though so I’m after a tighter fitting waist pjs. Thanks!

I found primark the best for my skinny son, however sometimes I needed to dart the sides (2nd quartile)

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 07/03/2026 20:14

My son is still like this at 6yrs old
I tie a hair bobble at the back or clip a peg to the back to make them tighter 😂

Bunnycat101 · 07/03/2026 20:16

M&S seems to be massive in the waist for trousers which is a shame as I like their pyjamas. I had to size down in joggers for pe to a 3-4 despite having a 6 year old which was ridiculous but they kept falling down every time she jumped. However, for girls they did do some skinny fit pyjamas which were better. Not sure if they do the same for boys?

Ha I might have to resort to this 😅 he’s constantly yanking them up.

They used to do a skinny fit pjs but I can’t seem to find them anymore!

We added an extra elastic in the tube at the waist where the elastic goes. Doesn't work on some styles. Good for adjusting joggers too.

HarryVanderspeigle · 07/03/2026 20:17

I have found h&m do good trousers for my slim child. Probably the same with pj's.

MabelAnderson · 07/03/2026 20:19

French brands are slimmer than UK brands, so Petit Bateau , but they are expensive unless you are in France on hols. Other less expensive options are La Redoute, Vertbaudet if it still exists ? I have very slender small waisted daughters and they couldn’t wear any UK brands when they were younger.

MissRainbowBrite · 07/03/2026 20:22

What’s your budget? Hatley or Mini Boden would work as they do a snuggle fit pj, you could always look on Vinted.

LashesZ · 07/03/2026 20:23

I gather one end and just sew down to “cut off” the surplus elastic from the waist. If DD magically grows then I just rip the sewing and the waist is back to usual size.

ThatFairy · 07/03/2026 20:26

Abercrombie Fitch often has a good slim fit option. I used them for my very skinny (now older) boy

CliveBixbee · 07/03/2026 20:26

I found the PJs from GAP have been the best for slim waisted DS. Quite expensive now you can only get them from Next but you can sometimes find a new pair on Vinted. Much better quality than the supermarkets etc.

Patty101 · 07/03/2026 20:28

My son is super skinny and the only pj's he can wear without them falling down are those with a tie waist. Bought a job lot from M&S in the January sales so he has enough to last him about 2 years now.

GoldenGeishaGirl · 07/03/2026 20:32

Next are quite good for skinny fit clothes. My eldest is the same. He needs the length but everything slides off him.

trying29 · 07/03/2026 20:34

if you can locate any gap pjs - I had this problem with my youngest who had heart issues and so was very skinny. Next was not skinny enough. Failing that we have had to put safety pins and pin the trousers in half to fit him. Benetton are the best for slim waists. If you are looking for leggings - Arket do adjustable waist leggings

Cocktailsandcheese · 07/03/2026 20:37

I've found Next good for PJs, they're still a bit baggy round the waist but don't fall down!

minipie · 07/03/2026 20:38

Yes to H&M and La Redoute - H&M if taller/longer legged and slim, La Redoute if smaller and slim

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 07/03/2026 20:40

We bought none cuffed styles. DS1 wore the size required for his waist, as 3/4 length.

DS2 wears shorts style.

Bitzee · 07/03/2026 20:51

Don’t buy PJs. Get slim fit leggings from the girls section in neutral colours e.g. navy and pair with literally any t shirt. For summer do the same but switch the leggings for cycling shorts.

user2848502016 · 07/03/2026 20:56

I found M&S kids clothes quite generously sized. A slimmer fit style would probably be better,
or could he wear shorts so that you can size down without the length being a problem?

GothicCola · 07/03/2026 21:21

My skinny waisted, tall almost 4 year old has got some Next pj's at the moment which are the best fitting ones he's ever had. Prior to that he had some from George, which was weird because I tend to find George comes up a bit on the bigger size, but for some reason the pj's were ok.

PurpleThistle7 · 07/03/2026 21:26

My kids are like this. We did the best with the slim fit from next but mostly I’ve just taken in every pair of pjs and leggings they’ve ever owned. They’re both long legged and small at the waist so it’s impossible to fit both.

NailsForChristmas · 07/03/2026 21:26

I got some from Uniqlo that button to the top.

I’ve always found tesco to be slim fit
