I bought 2L of white vinegar after reading somewhere that it's incredible for laundry, cleaning and general household stuff.

But I forgot where I read it and I can't remember exactly what I was hoping for.

What do you use it for? Any brilliant laundry or cleaning tips or recipes?

I use a cup full in a smelly load of washing or on the dog blankets. That’s my limit other than a squirt on chips 😂

SquirrelBlue · 07/03/2026 20:16

I use a glass of it to clean the dishwasher. Also to wash windows. My brother's used it to clean his coffee machine.

Notmyreality · 07/03/2026 20:17

Well, don’t drink it.

I use it for cleaning. A cup of white vinegar, some bicarbonate of soda and maybe some lemon for scent. Put it in a spray bottle. It’s great.
or, a cup in the dishwasher and washing machine for cleaning

It rescues stinky sportswear, when normal washing isn’t removing the smell. Soak in diluted vinegar then wash as normal.

I use it for my smelly gym kit. Gets rid of that sweaty smell.

Also good for stains on the worktops in the kitchen.

Use it instead of fabric conditioner.

LashesZ · 07/03/2026 20:20

I use it on everything!
Washing machine and dishwasher cleanser
In the wash with towels
Mixed with fairy liquid and salt to kill weeds
Add a dash of fairy liquid to trap flies in summer
Rub on remnants of stickers
Glass cleaner
Brine pickled red onions

It’s incredibly versatile!

Look at Nancy Birtwhistle. She has published several books, but posts loads on her Facebook and Instagram about natural cleaning so it will give you some ideas. You can use it instead of fabric softener.

I descale my kettle.
I also pour it into sink hole and add baking powder/bicarb for it to fizz and clean, then pour boiling water down sink.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/03/2026 20:28

I use it as eco weed killer. I put it in a spray bottle. The weeds dont like it.

ThejoyofNC · 07/03/2026 20:31

Excellent for descaling. I could use at least half doing my kettle, toilet, taps, shower head etc.

Thank you, some amazing ideas here!

Yes this, i also put a solution of washing up liquid and vinegar in a squirty bottle for my window vac do windows shower screen and mirrors.

Pour half a litre down the kitchen or bathroom sink. Follow with a small tub of bicarbonate of soda. Leave for half an hour then flush through with hot water. Makes a fantastic volcano effect and gets rid of all the gunk on the inside of the sink pipes

ScribblingPixie · 09/03/2026 11:58

I stick a bit in the bin after I've taken the rubbish out, and give it a swill around.

Swimmingatdawn · 09/03/2026 11:59

Second buying Nancy Birtwhistle's books. I don't buy any cleaning products at all now.

TheSandgroper · 09/03/2026 14:03

I have a spray bottle of vinegar in my bathroom and spray my scalp every so often before washing my hair. I’m left with very soft, clean hair.

Use vinegar instead of fabric softener.

It’s a mould killer. (See above for spray bottle in the bathroom).
