What’s happening on your street’s WhatsApp group right now?

Mine has a dire warning about a dodgy tradesman offering to clean gutters without proper H&S equipment. Much worry that he will drop a roof tile on someone’s car.

Also people asking to use other people’s bins as they’ve been clearing out excess clutter.

I’m bored, not working today, have a cold and need cheering up. Has anyone got anything more juicy than this going on in their street?

Ours is eerily and suspiciously quiet.

The last thing was about a week ago when someone had a parcel stolen from their doorstep.

And before that someone was having trouble with their electrics and wanted to know if it's was a street wide issue or just their house.

Very dull.

faerylights · 06/03/2026 10:13

I would rather stick pins in my eyes than be a part of any street WhatsApp group 🫣

Bruisername · 06/03/2026 10:13

Every week there is a photo of a cat and a ‘worried about this cat - no collar and trying to eat our cats food - should I call the rspca’

you have a cat - do you not understand cats!!

Gettingbysomehow · 06/03/2026 10:13

I dont think we have one.

Tiddlywinks63 · 06/03/2026 10:15

What street WhatsApp group?
Thankfully we don’t need one here 😁

Irresistibletasteofcookies · 06/03/2026 10:16

There’s a street WhatsApp group? No thank you the school class one is bad enough

ainsleysanob · 06/03/2026 10:17

We don’t have one! I have absolutely zero desire to be included in a WhatsApp group at all let alone one from my street!

Bruisername · 06/03/2026 10:18

I keep it in archive - it was useful when there was a powercut and sometimes there are some conversations that make me laugh. My daughter has had a cat sitting gig out of it

Buscobel · 06/03/2026 10:19

Visitor parking spaces.
Replacing street lights.

Bruisername · 06/03/2026 10:20

hot off the press - someone’s car was stolen last night. Asking if anyone might have ring doorbell footage.

MannequinsArePeopleToo · 06/03/2026 10:21

I was on one. Never again.

Cricketashes · 06/03/2026 10:22

We don't have one. I've never lived anywhere that had one luckily.

Onefortheroad25 · 06/03/2026 10:28

Not a street as such but rural countryside.
Apparently someone’s cows are out on the road..again.

purplecorkheart · 06/03/2026 10:39

We don't have one but we do have two facebook pages. It is mainly people giving away/seeking items, advertising local businesses and the other has people mainly posting old photos of the area. There is the odd lost and found items too.

mondaytosunday · 06/03/2026 10:58

Just someone receiving a mis delivered parcel and looking for the correct person. Before that it was someone offering a few items for free. But a month ago the fox/public bin issue was the hot topic - our most active member (she may even be the one who set the group up) lives near the school which has two bins outside that get full very quickly and a fair bit of food goes in there too. Foxes then create a big mess and she was campaigning for fox proof bins or at least for them to get emptied more frequently.

InMySpareTime · 06/03/2026 11:02

Updates to the street Trusted Trader list, welcoming a new street resident, and people offering furniture/play equipment free “or it goes to the tip”.

doodlejump1980 · 06/03/2026 11:03

bob (not real name) has just painted his fence. The paint has bled through to Sheila’s side. Now she’s asking what specific colour paint he used so she can paint hers the same. The street’s back fences are being turned grey one house at a time in a very slow domino effect. We’re next in line and weren’t planning on painting ours grey.

SherbetDipDap · 06/03/2026 11:03

Neighbour’s cat is missing.

It’s a quiet group as we’re pretty rural and there’s not much going on. In the last month: Road closure due to sewage maintenance, more cat-related escapades, sheep escaped, peahens hanging about, logs for sale, foxhounds loose and bothering wildlife.

InMySpareTime · 06/03/2026 11:05

@doodlejump1980launch a pre-emptive strike and paint your fence bright pink so it bleeds through, then there will be a pink/grey Cold War of fence colours.

That's very neighbourly of Sheila. If it was me I'd slap generous amounts of hot pink on my side of the fence.

I hate the current greyification of our built environment.

Well that's a very satisfying cross post!

Wiresring · 06/03/2026 11:08

Afaik, there isn't one. Although it could just be that I'm not on it.

Our local FB was very distressed about 3 young men with backpacks and baseballs caps often seen "up to no good" in the early hours. It was my DS and his friends walking home from their jobs at McDonalds.

NamechangingNeighbour · 06/03/2026 11:22

I could get behind the hot pink fence trend.

If we did that in our street we’d probably get booted out of the WhatsApp group (which a neighbour added me to and which I’ve stayed in due to a morbid fascination with other people’s trivia).

Now someone is talking about lawnmowers. Riveting stuff.
