School Wars - South Yorkshire

My son, 14, came home from school yesterday and said they’d had a big assembly warning them about ‘school wars’. He’s not the best at explaining things and said apparently school have said there is currently a ‘trend’ where schools across South Yorkshire are being designated either Red or Blue and each sides task is to seriously hurt a child from a school of the opposite colour whilst they’re out and about or on their way home from school. Teachers have told them it’s probably best if they don’t wear their ties/blazers when walking to or from school.

I thought my son was exaggerating but I’ve googled it just now and it is a thing. What the hell is going on in schools that this even a thing?

W. Midlands. We've been warned too.

It’s been a growing TikTok trend, insanity, for a few weeks.
We got a message from school but it seems it hasn’t reached here locally, specifically, yet. So we were just told who the pupils should speak to if they felt unsafe.

Being told to remove blazers is a considerable step up. I can only assume from our message that the school and police have come to this advisory decision as a precaution.

I would ask our teen to follow instructions, shove a hoodie in their bag to travel to/from in for the time being.

@frozendaisyThats what I’ve told DS to do too, luckily I drop him to school in a morning on my way to work but he does walk, quite a considerable distance, home. It’s worrying.

I cannot believe this is even a thing. I’m utterly baffled.

There's been a few threads about this and it seems to be affecting most areas.

Bonkers and very worrying.

I'm sure I read somewhere that was started by a guy in his 50s possibly American with the Crisps/Bloods bit.
Also some of the schools meant to be battling were miles apart and one of them was a posh London private school .

That was on SM where I am a couple of weeks ago. Schools did email about it after the police got in touch. But nothing at all happened

We’re just into W Yorks from South. We’ve been warned, but we have such a large rural catchment it’s very, very unusual to see anyone else in a different high school’s uniform.

Similar, but less organised inter school warfare was happening when I was at school in London 40 years ago!
