Can I paint a composite front door?

It's a very faded dark green colour.

Part of the problem is I used Bar Keepers Friend to clean off DC's greasy (suncream?) finger marks and it destroyed the lacquer which is now patchy.

So is it possible to paint it? What do I need to remove the remaining lacquer, what other prep is required and what paint?

Or has anyone had success with having one professionally sprayed?

Yes. ours is black so i recoated it using an oil based eggshell...only one coat with a roller and it looks great...clean it before hand with white spirit to remove grease etc.

No priming or sanding?

no, just a good clean and rinse off, nice dry sunny day...looks fab.i did use black over an already black door though so maybe easier. an oil based paint will adhere well.

Yes, we did ours , it was a very faded red . Make sure you start early in the day as you don't want to get to the evening and not be able to close the door . Guess how I found that out !

So what do it do about the peeling rubbery lacquer?
