Sarah Everard - it's five years ago today that this young woman was murdered

The Covid era seems a lifetime ago now and I expect most of us have tried to forget those difficult times.

I'm sad to think that women are still being killed when just going about their everyday lives.

I read an article today. What is so frustrating is that Wayne Couzans had an array of red flags that were all ignored.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 03/03/2026 14:46

This case still sickens me to my very core.

The CCTV footage of her and the footage of her walking home and being accosted by him is chilling. I want to just scream at her not to go with him, like I could somehow change the outcome of what happened to her.

Such a beautiful girl, killed just because a guy decided he liked what he saw.

Makes me angry on another level. 😡

This case haunts me, as does the Joanna Yeates case.

amoosebouche · 03/03/2026 14:52

I was so affected by this case; truly, truly sickening. Disgusting excuse for a man, who should have been caught far earlier. I think of Sarah's parents, friends, boyfriend, and also Wayne Cozens's poor wife and children.

AutumnAllTheWay · 03/03/2026 14:57

Pure evil. Sickening.

Yes, so sorry for Sarah and all who loved her. Also for that monster's wife and children who will never be the same again.

CharlotteRumpling · 03/03/2026 15:00

I thought of her today, and her mum who has to go on with those horrible images in her head. Another casualty of male violence.

ginasevern · 03/03/2026 15:41

Sarah's murder had such an impact on me. Of course I've known that women are never 100% safe with men, but this so graphically brought it home. For a long time afterwards, and even now to some extent, I felt uneasy about getting into a taxi on my own with a male driver for example. Whoever ignored the previous reports about Couzens should be prosecuted. But it's one big boys club isn't it.

neleh87 · 03/03/2026 15:50

I was deeply upset by her death. I usually try to avoid reading about things like that but I really couldn't get her out of my head for a long time. She was close in age to me and just seemed like an ordinary, lovely woman. I remember feeling guilty that I had been safe in my flat while this was happening to her. I do think of her at this time of year. Glad I am not the only one.

Thank you for posting this

Yet I read today the Met still half of its officers not on the DNA elimination database and a fifth of officers not fingerprinted. I thought the latter would be routine on joining the Police force⁰

PeonyPatch · 03/03/2026 18:19

She’s so beautiful.

Pedallleur · 03/03/2026 18:20

she could have been anyone on MN or one of our daughters.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 03/03/2026 18:21

I know the area very well (family lived round there) and I did a lot of walking during Covid. It absolutely sickens me to think this vile piece of work lied and got her into his car. Prison is too good for him.

Edited

Thought that would be routine checks🤯

Poor Sarah. She was a loss to the world.

PabloEscoBear · 03/03/2026 18:59

RIP Sarah.
Just so hideous what happened to her, and I can’t find the words for how awful that man is. Thoughts are with her family and friends.

HighJapes · 03/03/2026 19:00

Bless her. God every time I see a picture of her it’s just heartbreaking and deeply upsetting.

lllamaDrama · 03/03/2026 19:07

Poor Sarah, I still cannot think about her fate without feeling very upset. I hope her family have found some way of coming to terms with it, they will be in my prayers tonight.

Onceuponasunflower · 03/03/2026 19:09

What a lovely picture of her in Vogue. RIP Sarah.

Three police forces failed to make the right decision about him.

2008, 2010, failed vettings.

2018, applied to Metropolitan Police Force and despite having allegations of independent exposure reported to Kent Police and logged on the PNC in 2015, he passed.

2020, indecent exposure and masturbation in a country lane, not properly investigated.

2021 two episodes of indecent exposure at McDonald's. Not properly investigated despite using his own car and credit card.

Five more incidents that only came to light after his arrest for Sarah's murder.

She didn't stand a chance.

She didn't even lose her life because he liked what he saw. He admitted that he was looking for any lone female. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Her murder, and the murder of Zara Aleena just over a year later, affected me so deeply. I didn’t know either of them but they were just normal young women living their lives in the city I also live in.

They should have been safe, and they both deserved so much more. 💐

JuliettaCaeser · 03/03/2026 19:57

Sarah, Zara and Joanna Yates felt like all our daughters. Happy lovely girls minding their own business killed by evil murderers who were strangers to them. There are no words really are there.

Heatedrival · 03/03/2026 19:58

I think about her a lot. X

She’s so beautiful.

What does that even have to do with anything 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

LlynTegid · 03/03/2026 20:03

I wish it had never happened of course, but think it a good thing that we have been reminded of the anniversary.

I can still comment on it. It’s a compliment. RIP Sarah!
