Getting slimmer but no weight loss on diet

Travelcrazy · 02/03/2026 12:32

I started eating better 7 weeks ago and lost 5lbs in the first 5 weeks. I am now around 9 stone 8 and I have not lost a single pound in the last 3 weeks but surprisingly my belly and face have gone down more and my belt needs tightening an extra 2 holes
Does anyone know what is going on. It's never happened before.

Are you exercising? You might be eating enough to maintain your weight now, but losing fat and gaining muscle. Hence you look different but the scale stays the same.

Much of your initial loss was likely fluid, not fat. You're now losing fat but your body is replenishing the 'emergency' fluid supply so the scales aren't moving. Once that's complete, if you stick to your healthy diet, you'll start to see the scales move again.

Thanks for the replies, no not exercising but I need to start so I get stronger and more toned. I have ordered some dumbbells

Unless you are very short, you are likely in the middle of a healthy weight range. So I definitely think strength training, rather than calorie counting, is going to be the most effective thing you can do.

The scales don't always tell the true story.

If you weigh yourself across a day or a week, your weight can fluctuate quite significantly!

Non scale wins (such as a smaller belly/face and your clothes fitting better) are far more reliable.

@SherbetDipDap I am 5 feet 2 so a bit plump.
@GreyCarpet yes my clothes are definitely fitting better
