Anyone been? How was it? I’m very sensitive to temperature and find 23/4 degrees cold. But I’ve seen some people go in Jan for winter sun?

if you’ve been what’s it like?

that or Cyprus are on my may half term list?

Too cold. We went in June and tbh it was fine for me but too cold for other family members who were used to proper heat holidays. We had young kids with us. But it was overcast and grey on the day we went to Siam park and it was cold when wet. So I would say no.

We go to Lanzarote every April and it's always been 25 degrees and lovely.

How’s the pools? Do you have a hotel recommendation?

Late may should be hotter then - could be nice!

We were in Tenerife for Feb half term and it was 24 most days, felt hotter in the sun. The one windy day it was chilly but I suspect that would be the case most of the year round. May should be mid-high 20s in the daytime. Have been once in August, it was mid 30s and unbearable inland as there was no breeze!

Fortheloveofpenguins · 02/03/2026 08:38

The weather in Tenerife is different depending on where you are. Average temperature in May is 23 - 26 in the South. The temperature in the North can be 1 - 3 degrees cooler and more rain. The Southeast is windier, so you want Southwest - somewhere around Costa Adeje.

I went in January for some winter sun and honestly it was lovely.
canaries in January is like the uk in May. Temps of 17-25 sea temperature about 20.

Bjorkdidit · 02/03/2026 09:05

The Canaries will more likely be more reliably warm in May. Both the Med and the Canaries will probably be warm, but not guaranteed. You've more chance of good weather in the south. Somewhere like Puerto Mogan in Gran Canaria or Playa Blanca in Lanzarote would be the best chance of better weather.

I've been to the Canaries in November to January and it's mostly been what seems hot and sunny to me - at least 20 C. I was in southern Spain last week and it felt hot although in reality was around 15 to 20 C.

cramptramp · 02/03/2026 09:28

We went to Lanzarote last May and it was ok during the day, hot enough to sunbathe, but really cold at night.

OrangeTrees7 · 02/03/2026 09:32

Gran Canaria mid May is lovely and warm between 11-5 but very breezy otherwise and slightly overcast at times. We live hot holidays and still enjoyed it, only needed a coat one evening. But otherwise lovely and sunny. I think Tenerife is hotter and less windy tbh

mindutopia · 02/03/2026 09:37

We went in February and I thought it was great, but I don’t love the sun and heat. I was in the cold like 12c pool and found the warm pool too warm for me. I can’t do 35c! That said, it was 22/23c when we were there, so will surely be warmer in May.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 02/03/2026 09:40

We've been to Lanzarote in May half term and had wonderful weather. I don't remember anyone needing a jacket in the evening, and it wasn't too hot for us to be out all day with younger children.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 02/03/2026 09:41

I'd head to Mogan in Gran Canaria, GC tends to have better weather than the other islands anyway, but apparently Mogan has it's own special mico-climate! I'm not sure of the science but I do believe it to be true as any time we've been there it's been beautiful even if other resorts on the island weren't so good.

That said, the weather everywhere is a bit unpredictable this past few years. I was in Majorca a couple of years ago mid-May and they had an unusual heatwave it was bloody roasting!

thaisweetchill · 02/03/2026 10:15

We’ve just come back from Gran Canaria and it was 24 for half of the week then 28 for the rest of the week. I would stick to Tenerife or Gran Canaria as the others are more windy/north. May will be hot.

xanthomelana · 02/03/2026 10:19

I used to visit family in Cyprus around May and it’s not as warm as you’d like. It suited me when the kids were younger but I prefer Cyprus from June for heat. The past three years I’ve been to Gran Canaria in April/May and had decent weather.

JulieMcCoy · 02/03/2026 10:23

We’ve visited Lanzarote, specifically Playa Blanca, a few times in May and have always found it to be beautiful and very warm. It is however very windy which can make it feel cooler than it really is, so you need to be extra vigilant with sun cream.

sundayvibeswig22 · 02/03/2026 12:42

I go to GC several times a year at different times. Always had lovely weather. Last April there was a Celina and it was mid 30’s- not nice though. As a pp said go to the south of the island- Puerto Rico/ Puerto de Mogan as there have micro climate and the most southerly of the canaries. I find lanzarote and fuertevebtura too windy.
