Always Why

I am bored of people asking always why if you tell them something. I was going to corner shops to get some personal stuff. Informed Dh and first thing he asked was why. I was changing my flights and my mum asked why. Bloody curious people!

Excellent 😆

I have two stock answers for tedious 'Why?' questions: "FUN!" and "Just to annoy you."

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 01/03/2026 14:32

Don’t kids ask why a lot?

Nerocostapret · 01/03/2026 14:33

Why are you posting such a silly thread?

Nerocostapret · 01/03/2026 14:33

I was changing my flights and my mum asked why.

Such a reasonable question!

Theyreeatingthedogs · 01/03/2026 15:04

Why does it bother you so much?

HelenaWilson · 01/03/2026 15:11

I was changing my flights and my mum asked why.

Seems a reasonable question. Why tell her if you don't want her to say anything? What would you like her to say?

whywhywhyohwhy · 01/03/2026 15:12

Basically I inform me people about my plans. They don’t need to know why.

Don’t inform them.

They probably aren’t actually interested or care what the heck you do

TheSlantedOwl · 01/03/2026 15:16

Just reply, “I’m afraid that’s classified information” and tap the side of your nose.

Harhar · 01/03/2026 15:16

Probably trying to find out why you’re telling them these things. What response would you like?

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 01/03/2026 15:17

How old are you?

Ok, good to know.

Whenever we asked “why?” my dad always answered “Z”. Took me years to work it out 😹

Yes, this is how conversations work.

If you offer information and they respond with polite curiosity, you can't exactly then say, none of your business can you.

whywhywhyohwhy · 01/03/2026 15:18

That’s what response you’d like or have I just taught you how conversations work?

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 01/03/2026 15:29

I think your husband asking why you're going to the corner shop is perfectly reasonable, if you hadn't told him what you were going there for.

The conversation might have gone like this:

You: Just off to the corner shop.

Him: Why?

You: We're out of tea bags.

Him: No we're not, there's a box at the back of the cupboard.

He might have been trying to save you an unnecessary journey.

And I think your mum asking about why you were changing your flight is just making normal conversation. What was she meant to say? Did you expect her to sit in silence?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 01/03/2026 15:34

It's one of those 'can't do right for doing wrong' things, really.

The post could so easily have been 'I tell people my plans and they just shrug and say nothing - AIBU for expecting them to ask me about my life?'

Dontlletmedownbruce · 01/03/2026 15:39

Why do you tell people your plans if you don't like the response?
