Likelihood of going to Qatar in 8 weeks?

I'm obviously very sad and worried about what is happening, but on a practical level I'm wondering whether I should be rethinking my plans to go to Doha in May. I am supposed to be visiting a friend who is an expat there (she is ok but in lockdown in her apartment) and then we are going from there to the Maldives for a week. I am not sure whether to just wait and see or start to think about alternatives in case it is still not possible to travel there.

My friend in Qatar isn't too worried as they had similar last summer and it just sort of blew over in a few weeks, but this feels more significant. I will be the first to admit I don't have a good understanding of what is happening or why, though.

Is anyone else due to visit the middle east in a few months wondering what will happen?

I'd say its just absolutely impossible to predict especially how things will stand in 8 weeks time. However considering how many gulf states are now being brought into this I would say that even in the unlikely event that absolutely everything has settled down in 8 weeks time there are still going to be knock on effects for quite a while.

The middle east countries have been going at each other since Adam was a lad. Yet it hasn't stopped them becoming some of the richest nations on earth.

I wouldn't get too het up about it just yet.

World War 3 could well be underway by then.. or it could have calmed down a bit but my money is on the former as the Iranians wont take this lying down.

Imagine if it was the other way and Trump + family had been killed...

I am supposed to be flying with Qatar to Doha then on to Brisbane to visit my daughter at the beginning of May. I’ve looked at now flying direct with Quantas to Perth and then getting a domestic flight to Brisbane. If I cancel the flights to Doha then we stand to lose around £1100. But if we wait and nearer the time the situation is the same and Qatar cancel then we will likely get it all back, but by then seats in flights might be hard to come by/more costly. We are going for 3 weeks and have already paid out for air b n bs etc (might get money back need to check). Just don’t know what to do.
