O2 and Virgin Media

I was passing my local O2 store and noticed they are actively trying to 'sign-up' current VM account holders as 'new' customers. Apparently its a loophole they are exploiting now that the 2 companies are extremely closely tied. Has anyone successfully done this? The saving is huge and I know VM won't match new customer offers (have tried) but I don't know anyone who has done it to ask how it was. So Has anyone successfully done this without loss of service? Did it go smoothly? Problems?

We've been with VM since they started in this area over 20 years ago and there is no advantage to being a long term customer - they don't care just like everyone else!

Thank you!

I didnt move to o2 but I did go online and sign up with sky and within 24 hours virgin contacted me with a price less than half of what I was paying.

I had 02 on my phone and signal was so bad that effectively for most of the day my phone was just a brick.

@amber763 - thank you. I have both O2 and VM already but I'm really sick of paying over double what a new customer can get so I'm sorely tempted to give it a try..... It baffles me that VM wouldn't look at the 'new' account and go 'hey they already have an account with us so what's going on here?'

@BashfulClam - O2 us really good here, which is why I've stuck with them but I'm wondering how smooth the transition is between two VM accounts is.....
