What is your favourite gift "from" your baby?

What's everyone's favourite gift that was "from the baby"? I don't mean a push present, I mean something like your first Mother's/Father's day as a parent or a first birthday as a new parent? Did your partner organise anything cute that was from baby or baby related?

My wonderful DH has been doing nights in the NICU for more than 50 days now and his birthday is soon. I want to gift him something sweet and meaningful.

Something he really liked when DC1 was little was a pair of cufflinks with her fingerprints etched on them. DH doesn't like extravagance and much prefers personalised/photo type things or perishable gifts/things that have a use.

I was thinking maybe a photo book but then we have none with our newborn and DC1 given children aren't allowed in the NICU. So the photos all look a bit sad...

I would love to hear what your favourite gifts/special things from your littlest have been x

I never received anything from DD as a baby. Now that she is an adult she buys me thoughtful gifts.

DH is not an uncaring person at all but it simply never occurred to him to get me something "from" DD when she was small.

Never had a gift ‘from the baby’. Get him something he’d like from you.

As above. I appreciated presents from them when they were old enough to choose their own.

i can completely understand why you want to treat your DH though. How about vouchers for a family photo shoot for when baby is out of NICU? Or a day out somewhere? Something for you all to look forward to as a family. Or a hamper of bits to make his stay in the NICU a bit more bearable? Nice PJs, snacks etc.

I hope your little one is out of hospital soon.

I can't remember getting anything when they were babies. Now I mostly get cans of diet coke and chocolate! I think it's a sweet idea though. Maybe a hand cast if that would be allowed for baby to do. My SIL has one made in metal but displayed in a case, it's in a fist shape but you can see each finger in the fist, very cute. If there is a particularly lovely picture of DH with the baby then that in a frame is the simplest.

But I'm sure your gratitude for him shows every day and that's the most precious thing.

@gollyimholly I hope your baby is well enough to come home soon 💐

A Christmas bauble with their handprints - ceramic

I still use my mug with photos of DC1 and he's 5. The cuff links with finger prints is a gorgeous idea, I wish I had thought of that back in the day! You both sound lovely and I bet a heartfelt card detailing how much you appreciate all the ways he's being a wonderful father would be loved.

my favourite gift from my 3 babies was despite them being long and heavy babies they gave me no stretch marks or lasting damage ‘down there’ and I sprung back into shape

Talipesmum · 28/02/2026 10:25

My DH loved the mug with newborn baby’s footprint on it. Used it for years till the handle came off and it’s now in the “precious mugs we can never get rid of” shelf.

Cufflinks with fingerprint sounds lovely.

RampantIvy · 28/02/2026 15:26

Cufflinks are more of a keepsake aren't they.

Does anyone even wear them any more?

TheKateColumbo · 28/02/2026 16:04

DH had a pen that I got him on his first Father’s Day. It’s just a simple silver coloured Parker pen as we were really skint back then but he still has it and uses it every day.

I've never heard of any gifts "from the baby" apart from a Mother's/Father's day smartshow 3d video with pictures of parents with the kids from any of our friends and we never did it either. To each their own though, the footprint idea sounds really cute!
