Inner "old lady"

BiggyJ · 27/02/2026 18:28

You know when people talk about their "inner child"?
I sometimes think I have the opposite, so an "inner old lady" if you will.
She likes to wear chunky cardigans and memory foam slippers, drink lots of tea and say 'Well bless my soul' at anything remotely interesting.

Anyone else or is this a just me thing? 😄

Yes, old before my time!
‘That modern music hasn’t got a tune and I can’t hear the words!’
‘She’ll catch a cold going out like that’
’He looks like he needs a good wash!’.

to add ‘…and a good meal!’

Yes, this is me!

'Why do they need all those tattoos? What will they look like when they're old and wrinkly?'
'How much!' [this can apply to almost anything]
'Oh look, they've got a sixth former on the news to talk about this ... Professor! How can someone as young as that can be a Professor!'

Etc etc.

(Having said this, I'm kidding myself that anyone sees me as anything other than an old lady now. People keep offering me seats on the Tube. Sigh.)

@PrizedPickledPopcorn I'm like that with the music!
I actually say out loud "they don't make music like they used to!" (the 80s. DCs just sigh and roll their eyes 😆)

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g DC had a teacher who I genuinely thought was an older sister of their school friend.

I've been known to look at a chop and mutter "that'll do me for two meals" 😂

Gosh yes. Those terribly young, serious looking policemen who look like they are wearing their dad’s clothes. And the doctors!

It came on me quite fast. One minute I glazed over at FiL talking endlessly about garden birds, and the next I’m stopped in the middle of the pavement looking at the sky, muttering, ‘where is it?!’.

I am definitely an old lady at heart. I comment on how young people look but really shouldn’t! I’m nearly 32 and was mistaken for being 13 a year ago. I wish I was joking! 🫠

I like nothing more than being in my comfy clothes, slippers and sat in my favourite spot on the sofa. Mustn’t forget the cup of tea in my favourite mug too.

Well bless my soul @BeingATwatItsABingThing ! You're just a young whippersnapper!

I've got 20+ years on you (but have been told consistently that I don't look it, whatever that means)

I love a lap blanket and my happy time is working on a big jigsaw. I think I've always been a bit of an old soul. I found people my age annoying in my teens and 20s, now I love people my age. (Late 40s)

I’ve definitely been old for quite some time. Having kids aged me. 😂
