Hannah Spencer

Flicitytricity · 27/02/2026 17:27

I have looked, I promise, but cant see anything on this subject.
Hannah Spencer who has just won Gorton by election is a Mumsnetter.

"During the campaign, media attention focused on a post by her on Mumsnet in 2021 in which she said Levenshulme has been "hugely blighted" by "(supposedly) money laundering takeaways" and that independent businesses "can't get a look in".
The Greens responded by saying the post made clear Spencer's "affection" for the area and her "disappointment" that independent businesses were being crowded out.

I cant remember reading this and I usually have a good memory for stuff like this.

Anyone remember debating it?

How would the media know it was her on an anonymous forum?

Presumably she told them? No idea, just curious if anyone engaged on the post.
I usually hoover stiff like this up, but cant remember it - mind you, it was a while ago😅

Did she do a guest post or something like that? Not sure if she was a candidate for anything back in 2021

I know, that's why I thought she must have just been a ' normal' MNer, spouting off.
I'll do some searching rather than being lazy and hoping someone remembered 🤣

No idea. And dont think it matters if she is or she isn't. I don't think she'll be MP after the next election. Its a protest/tactical vote. Not many folk want green policies.

gannett · 27/02/2026 18:39

The Telegraph piece which made this claim first includes her supposed username. Unsure how they linked it to her - none of the posts I've found by that user are outing - but she was asked about it in a different interview and didn't deny that she'd made those comments.

Flicitytricity · 27/02/2026 18:43

I cant find anything😏

Sheer nosiness, so I'll go back to lurking🤣

This She is just a non event.
Ignore.

MrThorpeHazell · 27/02/2026 20:05

Who knows? Who cares? She won the by-election. That is all that matters.

Flicitytricity · 27/02/2026 20:08

Jesus, okay, forget it😅
It was just a passing curiosity, not a passionate love affair.
I don't give a toss about the election result, was just curious about the MN link.
I'll give my head a wobble😅

It was the most annoying by election in Gorton Debdale constituency because of the Green Party.
Knocking on the door several times a day in the run up. Posting at 7am on the day, in the afternoon they came, at 5 o'clock there was about 6 or 7 of them stood outside the door as they knocked on jumping and cheering with big Green placards. My neighbour is a Green voter but didn't vote them because they pissed us all off that much.
I want to complain but don't know who to and it's a bit late but I'm still pissed off with how they acted!

Nice to meet a fellow Jane Austen fan. Gorton & Denton though - Gorton Debdale isn't a constituency, not sure if that was a weird autocorrect (we've all been there!).
If you want to complain about the issues you have raised in your post, despite it being late in the day for what you're saying happened (I'm neutral, I've no evidence either way) it's never too early to raise concerns that could prevent repetition of those behaviours you describe, whether in your constituencyor others. You could maybe contact the local party, the national party, the party leader and/or the new MP for Gorton & Denton. Without feedback (better late than never) and putting it on the record, and allowing for benefit of the doubt, your concerns - & those of any of your neighbours (and particularly those of your Green inclined neighbour who then didn't vote for the party for that reason which should add some weight) there's no way to ensure a review & prevent similar behaviours in future. Bigger picture: yes maybe doesn't change what happened by you but could ensure other constituencies don't suffer the same fate.
Not sure if that's helpful for you bit just my 2p. 🙂

They got the wrong poster, it was the poster that she was replying to who was Hannah. Her post was withdrawn.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/02/2026 02:20

She was a normal MNer.

TheKuiperBelt · 28/02/2026 05:52

Amusing that a number of MN posters call the Green’s progressive, and Spencer ‘charismatic’ etc.

Yet they conveniently make no mention of her sectarian campaign video that included visual tropes designed to target the prejudices of one specific community, for example Starmer shaking hands with Modi.

Also, much more needs to be written about how the Green's recent Islamic associations are the ideological opposite of the party's manifesto. This is no longer an environmental party, but a hard left Islamist party.

“We are working to line the pockets of billionaires, we are being bled dry,” says the 34-year-old plumber. Yet she has some how amassed a £1.3m property portfolio and has been caught giving advice on a property forum on how to squeeze first time buyers for more cash.

Briliant….

Well, those tactics evidently worked, so I don’t suppose they’ll be keen to ditch them.
I foresee something of a nasty shock for them, come the next GE, though. As for Hannah MP saying, ‘We can win anywhere!’ I supposes a kind word for that would be ‘deluded’.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 28/02/2026 08:47

I think it’s weird that you think you’d remember every post on MN from 5 yrs ago.

@TheKuiperBeltposts “…….This is no longer an environmental party, but a hard left Islamist party”.

I thought the leader of the Greens is Jewish.
Perhaps I am incorrect, I am not living in the UK or a UK citizen so not au fait with much of the politics but do take an interest in UK news.

Wolmando · 28/02/2026 09:01

Why does she need two houses, if I said I had two houses I would be called bad things on here. Why is it ok for her to have two houses and not me.

Yeah, I agree🤣

Having said that, people have referred to a post made 8 or 9 years ago, and I can remember where I was sitting and what I was doing when I read it😆
Some just stick.

I am sure I read that she recently split from her partner. Presumably he lives in one and ehr the other.

I think it is disappointing that the speech I read she gave does not appear to mention any traditionally Green topics. Perhaps I did not read all of it though.

I wouldn’t bother - it’s all BS.

If you want a proper laugh, read their manifesto…(or don’t).

@Wolmando I believe it's that she has split from her partner and is still the registered owner of the house they shared together because they are still sorting the finances, but also owns the home that she lives in now. So it's not a main home plus a holiday home type situation.

Yes, you are correct that Zack Polanski, the leader of the Green party, is Jewish.
