Hi,
Just after anybody else's experience please (Gp appt monday )

My almost 3 yr old Child had a seizure almost 3 weeks ago.
It was very frightening lasted almost 45 mins.
Blue lighted to hospital and observed overnight.
Sudden spike in temperature was the only conclusion.
A few temp spikes to 38c since, controlled by calpol.

I have found Dc is still v.tired still.
Has started having a 2 hr daytime nap and tired again by 6 pm. Sleeping almost 12 hrs a night as norm.

Gp appointment Monday.

Has anyone else found their child having similar, after a seizure?
Thanks

My son was older when he had his first and he recovered really quickly.
After a seizure, you should have a referral to a “first fit clinic”
with neurologist/epilepsy nurse. GPs have never been great with my son’s epilepsy, not trying to be unhelpful but they’re not specialists. Please push for referral, it should have been done by A&E.

We just had the 'follow up' appointment with the consultant for mid April.
I was expecting this as it was mentioned on discharge but Its still quite far for appt.

My other child suffered a fiberal seizure atsame age too and recovered very quickly- almost within a few hrs.

This just seems to have lasted a v.long time

That is a long wait! Think NICE guidelines are 10 days, we were seen quickly. Can you phone and say you’re available at short notice if there are cancellations? I got an eeg very quickly after trying that.

Obviously I’m no expert but your child’s recovery sounds unusual to me for a “usual seizure” but I guess there isn’t really a normal with neurology,

Being tired post seizure is very common but it shouldn’t last as long as 3 weeks.
If it was a febrile convulsion which are often triggered by high temps, then perhaps he is fighting a virus and is a bit under the weather? Does he have any other symptoms? GP check up sounds like a good idea .

Thanks for the replies.
No other symptoms really, slightly off food.
Has had mild cold this week.
Will contact the department on Monday and see what they say too.
