Bad Dreams

Good evening,
I hope you are all well because I have read some threads on here where people are struggling with very difficult issues. (certainly worse than me)
I started a chat on here recently whereby I had been dismissed from the police after nearly 26 years (civilian support staff not a police officer)
This was due to sickness and after many years of taking 999 calls I did become ill and did take time off sick. I absolutely don't deny that.
I am having counselling but still dream that I am taking 999 calls. This is now happening every night. But not in the sense of it being awful, just that I miss it. Some calls were awful.
I just wondered if anyone has recurring dreams like this. It's getting annoying at best but upsetting at worst.

Argh op you're very thoughtful of others when you're struggling too.

The MH bored on here is great and lots of support.

As well as counselling have you considered medication? I can understand how distressing some of the calls you took may have been. When you're going to bed and the thoughts begin, can you try and think of any positive calls where you helped someone?

Thank you for your reply.
I've tried having positive thoughts before bed. I've tried having a glass of wine before bed. (not doctors orders)
The weird thing is though, it's not so much the distressing calls that I dream about.
It's that I miss the job. My dreams consist of me turning up for work and doing a decent job. Making a difference, so to speak.
I suppose I just miss the job, despite me making me poorly. And I don't really know what I am asking from people here.
I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience I suppose.

Is it the job you miss or just working?

I used to teach, and I left teaching before retirement age. I very often dream that I am back in the classroom, or that the staff are holding a retirement party for me (they didn't!)

I think it's normal to have these sort of dreams. You are regretting your former life with the police, and while you are not thinking about it during the day, it's right there in your subconscious.

Unless it's upsetting you, I wouldn't pay much heed to it.

Everyone has recurring dreams at some time in their life. It sounds as if you’re quite fixated on your former job, though, and that’s something you probably do need to let go of. It’s good that you’re having counselling, as hopefully that will help. Have you told your counsellor about your recurring dreams?
