How much exercise do you do ?

TinaTwinkleToes · 26/02/2026 20:32

I do a 30 mins lifting weights class
1 hour of yoga
30 mins step
30 mins hit
30 mins stair master
I also walk a mile there and back to my child's school twice a week

The above is within a week

I see people doing loads more exercise. How do they fit it in?

Walk for at least an hour each day, hope to extend this when the light nights are back and 3 gym sessions a week.

somuchbedding · 26/02/2026 21:31

Well the stock MNs answer is 10,000 steps pottering around the house before work, a HIT class at lunch & some weights or a run in the evening. This schedule doesn’t seem to prevent dc going to extracurriculars, cooking from scratch, eating together as a family, DH having the same exercise schedule and having plenty of time for friends.

Im not sure how people fit it in either! 🤷🏻‍♀️

@TinaTwinkleToes I don’t manage as much as you, weekly I do a weights session, some yoga and try and get in daily walking.

Weights three times a week using a YouTube video and my home 'gym: walking daily. Swim once a week in term time. Yoga/stretching/physio in the evening.

All other exercise is before work.

CuttingNails · 26/02/2026 21:35

Seriously not enough. 10 min cycle to work and back a few times a week. A few gentle, walks and that's it. I'm in my 40 and my physical health is starting to suffer. I wish I had started more regular exercise before all the aches and pains began - they makes it so much harder.

horseplay12 · 26/02/2026 21:35

Gym 3 times a week for at least an hour (1/2 hr CV; 1/2 hr weights)

Fearlesssloth · 26/02/2026 21:40

45 min weights/strength training 3x per week
play football twice a week for an hour each time
kickboxing for an hour once a week.
The rest of my life is very sedentary though. I walk for maybe 20 min a day total. I go to the gym before work in the morning (and go straight to work from gym). Football is on two different week nights when my ex has my kids. Kickboxing is one evening a week and I do it with my kids

Jaffalemons · 26/02/2026 21:41

Run 4 times
Pilates 2 times
weights 4 times

ChopstickNovice · 26/02/2026 21:43

Walk two miles a day (1 mile to DS's school in the morning, 1 mile home from work in the evening). Sometimes weights at weekends. Need to do more high intensity stuff really.

swingingbytheseat · 26/02/2026 21:44

15-20k running
3 x weight lifting
walk a lot

got no kids and wfh but eat too many crisps

Cricketashes · 26/02/2026 21:45

Powerlifting 4 times a week, run twice and one pilates class a week

HeavenHelpMeAgain · 26/02/2026 21:48

Go to the gym 4-5times a week
work with a PT who has set out a 3 day strength programme, so do that on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning at 5:30am before work. Go to the gym after work on a Tuesday to do some cardio, usually treadmill and stair bastard- Saturday morning a Burn class, Sunday and Fridays are days off, but give room to move about if I can’t make one day x

BuddhaAtSea · 26/02/2026 21:52

I’m in my 50s.
Swim, Pilates, body pump and a run (5-10k) once a week. My job is physical, I walk to and from work.
I think I do too much, my body certainly feels it.
I’d be curious to know what others my age do

Pepperedpickles · 26/02/2026 21:54

Walk for an hour most days as fast as I can but that’s it. I know I should do more. I’m 45 and overweight. I do have health issues which prevent me from doing anything too strenuous.

MeridaBrave · 26/02/2026 21:57

Weights (heavy) most days. 2 days push 2 days pull and 2 days legs. 7th day some light cardio.

mellongoose · 26/02/2026 21:58

Not enough. I walk 3-6 miles on weekend days and horse ride. Hardly anything in the week. Intend to start C25K when light and weather picks up. Am 49.

MrsTrellisOgleddCymru · 26/02/2026 22:01

Walk 3 x 1 hour daily, plus ball throwing sessions. I have a border collie who is my exercise companion. I try and go swimming a couple of times a week.

Waitingfordoggo · 26/02/2026 22:05

I’m 48 and I teach fitness classes so I do 7 weights classes a week, 6 yoga and 1 general fitness (Dance/Boxfit or intervals). So I do very little cardio which I sometimes think I should do, but I don’t enjoy pure Cardio! I walk most days for an hour or so (dog) which is lovely and good for my MH, but isn’t cardio.

If I wasn’t working in fitness I would probably still do quite a lot (but a fair bit less than I do now) as my kids are young adults and I have the time and freedom to exercise (I work PT and would still work PT in any other industry).

It’s the best job I’ve ever had- I love being paid to exercise! I will keep doing it as long as I can but don’t expect to be able to retire until State Pension age, so fingers crossed I remain in good enough physical condition to keep going. We’ve got an 82 year-old instructor at our place who teaches five classes a week!

She’s been teaching it since 1970 and got an award from the Queen a few years back 😂 She’s absolutely brilliant and looks about 20 years younger- she’s my fitness idol.

Fearlesssloth · 26/02/2026 22:06

Those who do strength training/weight lifting more than 3 times a week (especially if you’re age 35-45) and lift heavy weights - do you look very toned/muscular? I do 3 times a week and although I’m a bit toned, I don’t look muscular. I’d like to. How many times/hours per week did you have to do before you started looking muscular? Especially in the arms. My arms have always been so skinny and weak looking, I hate them. I’d love to have a popping tricep 🤣

50NotFat · 26/02/2026 22:07

Gym 3 times a week, run 3 times a week (short, mid, long run) and walk twice a week. My job is very manual and I’m on my feet 7.5 hours 4 days a week.

FlappicusSmith · 26/02/2026 22:08

3 x 30 min online strength training classes a week (Peloton)
1 x longer hilly walk
1 x swimming (proper training session)
1 x cycling to station (there and back, about 10-15 mins each way, up hill one of them)
1 x shorter walk if I can fit it in before work

I'd love to do more, but I work FT, have kids, and have a very long commute on the 1 day I work in the office. So I need to fit stuff in when I can.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 26/02/2026 22:08

20 min weights 5 x weekly
10 min non weight strength for arms and back usually daily
Yoga 1 or 2 x weekly
Varied amounts of walking with weighted vest.

Single parent to two young children, I work full time and have DC with me the rest of the time.

Genuinely, what do people do with their children while they exercise?

I’m also a single parent. I do a kickboxing class with my kids. It’s a combined kids & adults class and we both love it. I also have weights at home so can do weights stuff at home while I have my kids

1980isitjustme · 26/02/2026 22:13

I go to the gym at 6am either 4 or 5 days a week. 25 mins treadmill or stepper and a half hour circuit class, or a 45 minute spin class depending what day it is, then a run of between 7 & 10km one weekend day.

I have to go first thing or else I just don’t end up going.
