TinaTwinkleToes · 26/02/2026 20:32

I do a 30 mins lifting weights class
1 hour of yoga
30 mins step
30 mins hit
30 mins stair master
I also walk a mile there and back to my child's school twice a week

The above is within a week

I see people doing loads more exercise. How do they fit it in?

I run 3 times a week, do ultras so one of them will be over 10 mile hilly trails . Gym twice a week for strength training. I'm 60 and do get tired, I love exercise and wish I could do more bit the tiredness gets in the way unfortunately.

MJalltheway · 26/02/2026 23:33

I'm early 50s and do 5 x 1 hour classes a week plus 2 weights sessions. 1 in the gym, 1 at home.
I've built this up over the past year at the same time as losing weight so last January I started from nothing and picked up 1 class a week.
i work part time and my kids are older teens (who spend a lot of time in the gym themselves). I prioritise fitness for me now so most days I'll do it straight after work. At the weekend I'll get up early and have done a workout before anyone else gets out of bed.

boredwithfoodprob · 26/02/2026 23:37

1 45 min body balance class
1 45 min circuits class
1 Pilates on the ball class
2 5k runs.
2-3 hour long + dog walks.
If time I’ll do another class or swim at the weekend.

30 mins swimming per day
30 mins dog walk per day (husband does the rest)
I’m disabled and 60 so it’s the most I can do

TsunamiTsunami · 26/02/2026 23:45

This week I've done one hour of pilates, one hour of yoga, 30 mins swimming plus walking to kids' school and my work. Planning two 30 minute run (jog)s at the weekend and at least one more yoga class. But sometimes a lot less than this!

rudeignoramous · 26/02/2026 23:49

Walk the dog about an hour a day and do my 10,000 steps once a week at work 😂
I hate exercise and am happy with my life. I have more energy generally than my friends who are the same age.

canuckup · 26/02/2026 23:57

I do a lot with the kids I e.biking, ice skating, parks, pool. But it's fairly low level stuff, not high intensity.

DH and I usually walk for 30mins at lunchtime

In winter I do 2 X 1 hour skating at lunchtime, same with biking in summer

julesagain · 27/02/2026 00:23

I can just about manage aqua fit twice a week if i take sufficient painkillers before and after due to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and currently using crutches 95% of the time. Before RA it would have been Body Pump twice, x-biking twice plus pirates, gym and Horse riding 5 times a week as well as running after two small children. Oh how my life has changed.

Freedomsjustanotherword · 27/02/2026 00:24

I'm iny my 50s and have an annoying knee injury at the moment. Usual weekly regime is about 5 hours of cycling, one yoga class, 15 miles or so running, one or two swims.

I need more upper body strength building exercise.

Do more?! I’d be extremely pleased with myself if I was doing regular 10 mile hilly trail runs at the age of 60!

ThePoshUns · 27/02/2026 07:33

3 vinyasa yoga classes a week
1 strength class
2 5k runs
walk an hour a day weather permitting

my children are grown up so have the time now

Yesterday evening my boys were at karate so worked out.
Saturday when at coding class I use the hour to walk.
Weekdays between meetings I take 30 mins or during my lunch.
Walk to the station for when I do go into an office.

Definitely not easy but can be done.

I think you probably make a good point about fitting it in where you can. I live in an extremely hot place so a walk is difficult but theres a dad at DD’s swimming lessons who basically just walks around the pool for an hour, think he’s getting his steps in. He’s definitely lost weight, he’s a bigger guy and he’s looking well.

Eurgh, will try to get back to doing something and then try to squeeze in what I can. I started dreading the 5 hours of weight training, I think I need to simplify and destress my routine.

Buscake · 27/02/2026 07:38

Run x3 per week
weights x3 per week
swim x1 per week

fit in plenty of walking too. I work FT and am sole parent to 3, so I get up and on my treadmill at 6am every weekday either running or walking. Weights for about an hour in the evening on those days. All done at home (except the swim) to fit around my kids. Until about a year ago I did zero exercise, I’ve just built this up over time after starting c25k

Cheersmedears123 · 27/02/2026 07:46

Hardly anything! Once per month I’ll do a Fiit exercise session, feel healthy for the following hour and then completely forget about exercise again for another month. This thread is a bit of a kick up my ass!

None of my family exercise really, nor does DH. It’s just not on my radar as something people do.

Edited to add - thanks @Buscake for the inspiration! Sounds like you’ve done well.

DontKnowWhyIfeelLonely · 27/02/2026 07:48

2 x 45 min pilates reformer
1 x 1 hour 15 mins vinyasa yoga
2 x 60 mins weight training in gym
2 x 7K runs

NormasArse · 27/02/2026 07:53

Aquafit one day; 40 lengths another. Walking the dogs 3 days (DH does the other days!)- always try to do a more physical walk at weekends. I work pt in a nursery, so on my feet for 9 hours a day, twice a week, with lots of lifting! Also work as a PA to adults with additional needs- that’s when I get to the pool!

I do much more in the summer because I’m at my van 3 days a week, and sea swim daily; do lots of walking.

I’m 60, with osteoarthritis and Hashimotos/hypothyroidism. I really need to do some weight training and Pilates as well.

MySweetGeorgina · 27/02/2026 07:59

I was only able to get into exercise properly once my kids left home and my parents no longer needed care

when kids were teens I was driving all over the country to take them to sports events. Then my mum broke her hip and my dad got ill and my free time went on doing things for them.

only now I am in my 50s can I put my own health and activity level at the place I want it to be:

1 hour dog walk each day
3 times tennis (1.5 or 2 hrs, 3-4 hours in match days)
2 x strength training (45 mins)
2x yoga (1 hr)

would love to do even more but I also have to fit in work 😁

also, my house is never clean and tidy 😅 but I decided my 50s is when I want to be as fit as possible, and well, you can’t have everything 🤷‍♀️

Biscuits4 · 27/02/2026 08:02

2 x Clubbercise
1 x pilates
Approx 30 mins walking a day
Approx 30 mins a week doing online taichi class or toning/weights at home
About once a week a walk up our local hill, all up hill, but half of it is a 50% gradient so no mean feat for me personally
I'm a fair weather cyclist so will start that soon

I'm 59 and added the clubbercise, taichi and toning in when I found I was pre-diabetic.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 27/02/2026 08:06

At the moment I'm getting 6 gym sessions in on a push, pull, legs program with a mixture of heavy and moderate lifts, followed by 30 minutes of low intensity cardio on either the treadmill, stairmaster, bike or elliptical. I get one interval session in a week too.

Princessfluffy · 27/02/2026 08:11

I do micro sessions ie 5 or 10 mins at a time. Some balancing exercises, a mini yoga routine, Asian squats etc. the micro sessions are fairly recent and they really make a difference.
I also do daily walking with a little bit of weights and swimming thrown in.

MrsClattenburg · 27/02/2026 08:18

M - GYM (cardio)
T - PT (weights - lower body)
W - Fast 5k walk outside
T - GYM (cardio)
F - GYM (weights - upper body)
S - Fast 5k walk outside
S - GYM (weights - full body)

I love the gym and feel so sluggish if I don't fit some form of exercise into my day.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 27/02/2026 08:19

4.3 mile run 5 x a week
45 minute fast cycle x 7 a week
20 minutes + Pilates x 3 a week

Plus several long (1 hour +) dog walks (she also runs with me) and lots and lots (and lots, something of a bone of contention) short 10-20 minute dog walks throughout the day.

But I'm semi retired and WFH in a rural environment so running outside is lovely, I can cycle in front of YouTube and sauntering around the lanes with the dog is not exactly a hardship (unless it's raining or freezing but sobeit).

I am aware that I need to start weights really, but not sure where to fit them in.

ETA: I'm 65.

Fearlesssloth · 26/02/2026 22:06

Those who do strength training/weight lifting more than 3 times a week (especially if you’re age 35-45) and lift heavy weights - do you look very toned/muscular? I do 3 times a week and although I’m a bit toned, I don’t look muscular. I’d like to. How many times/hours per week did you have to do before you started looking muscular? Especially in the arms. My arms have always been so skinny and weak looking, I hate them. I’d love to have a popping tricep 🤣

I do look muscular - my PT thinks it's great and he's always taking videos of me in the gym for his instagram (quite flattering as I'm pushing 50!)

Not sure DH likes it quite so much but it's addictive! The more toned my legs, arms and shoulders get, the heavier weights I lift - I can see why men get so muscly now 😍

Girlintheframe · 27/02/2026 08:23

run 30-40 km per week
do min 13,000 steps a day as have a dog
will be returning to weight lifting soon

BitOutOfPractice · 27/02/2026 08:27

Typical week

Monday: weights session with PT
Tuesday: running, yoga in the evening
Wednesday: spin class
thursday: weight training of some sort
Friday: rest or run depending how I feel
Saturday: weight training
sunday: running

i also walk at least half an hour a day (to and from work)

I do my training before work 90% of the time.
