What to wear to cheese and wine evening?

Rarely go out and feel like I have NO clothes at the moment. Been invited to a cheese and wine evening at a wine bar. Never been there before, doesn't look that fancy, more like a cool/funky place. I'm going shopping tomorrow for an outfit but I dont know where to go or what to buy. Live in a big city so theres all the normal chain shops here. I'm 33, 5 ft 8 and size 14 - 16. Big bum, big boobs. Budget about 100 but happy to spend more. Just feel so unconfident/unsure about clothes. Have asked friend to come with me but she may not be able to come so will probably be solo. Find shopping very overwhelming, I normally end up wandering around just feeling lost and go home.

Depends on the occasion. We used to attend cheese and wine do's regularly. Some were in the social club with a disco after, we just dressed as if we were having a relaxing night out together, smart casual as they say. We also attended more formal events where it was DJ for OH and nice dress for me, everyone on best behaviour not as much fun.

If its a wine bar with friends I'd just go wearing whatever I'd normally wear on a night out with them. Unless they say there's a dress code just try to look smart and comfortable. Nothing you'll be too bothered with wine stains or greasy cheese/food stains..

I’d wear a leopard print dress )standard. Or jeans/skirt and a nice top. Depending on the venue, I’ll likely wear trainers. I wouldn’t think dressed up vibes-where is it being held?

I tend to go with black trousers and a nice top. Kind of what I would wear under a suit jacket for work as that is what is mainly in my wardrobe. However at similar events that I was more at the formal end of outfits. Many people were wearing jeans and causal tops. Not quite hoodies but casual.

What kind of shoes/boots do you already have and feel comfy in? Best to start from there and work backwards I think.

Are you more a trousers or dress person? If it’s “cool” then nice jeans with a funky to and jacket could look good with funky trainers/ heels if you prefer- I always go for big earrings if feeling a bit lost!

If you’re a dress person I’d get a nice print dress, wrap would work well with your shape, and knee high boots.

Try All Saints.

Smart jeans a nice top, blazer.
midi skirt, fitted top, fitted leather jacket.

would be my suggestion, the smarter end of casual but not dressed up as such,

It doesn’t sound prohibitively ’dressy’. If I were you I’d browse the New collection at & Other Stories and pick any two pieces that appeal to you - blouse and trousers , or top and skirt if you prefer. (If you already have something like any of those things in your wardrobe that makes it easier.)
