Question for anyone who knows about using HRT patches

Hi all! I am 43 and my doctor has just put me on HRT patches. I am excited to try them as my night sweats are HORRENDOUS, however on the prescription label it says to start the first patch 'within 5 days of onset of period'. I understand this means I should wait until my period begins, but I just finished my period and I don't want to wait another month to start this! My doctor also never mentioned anything about having to wait to start depending on my cycle. Can anyone who knows more about this advise if I HAVE to wait?

Thanks so much

Oh I didn't have that on mine, I just slapped it on! I seem to have survived.

Hi I am on evorel patches and have been on them for nearly 2 years now. The reason you have to start them at the beginning of your period is because the hormones will be in sync with your natural cycle. I'm suprised your doctor didn't mention it when you were prescribed them. I mean you could start them anytime really but its not advisable and it would totally mess your cycle up. I was advised by my doctor to start the first one on day 1 of my period on soon after. Hope you get on ok with them, they've really helped my symptoms. Good luck! 😊

They aren’t in sync with your cycle forever though, my cycle ranges from 34 to 20 days and I still use the patches 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off. If you just finished your period you can’t be much more than 5 days from onset of your last period?

I also slapped mine on as soon as I got them and then read the leaflet after! It was fine. (My cycle was already quite erratic though).
