A few months back according to the media it was Reform's for the taking - now it's a three-way bet between Labour, Greens and Reform

So pleased with the results. Love Polanski and think he is a ray of light in the dark. He talks a lot of sense.

Can you help me understand how Zack will fix the economy when he doesn’t know the difference between the debt and the deficit?

The Greens have lunatic policies and ideas. I can’t understand why anyone wouid vote for them.
( not a conservative or reform voter myself, but honestly their actual policies really scare me, especially around drugs)
Five MPs now in Parliament.

Edited

I think people are voting for them for the reason others vote Reform - they want ‘bold change’.

I would be happy with a number of Green MPs as although I would describe myself as right of centre economically and socially, I’m hugely concerned about the climate crisis and passionate about the countryside and rewilding as much of the UK as possible.

But neither party much have full control of government, they’re utterly dangerous. There’s a reason people on benefits are far more likely to vote Green.

Have you listened to Polanski in interviews explain how he’d fix the economy?

It’s not about policy, it’s about sending a message

EasternStandard · 27/02/2026 07:11

Excuses from Labour this morning. They might try to wash over a 13,000 majority loss. What they’re saying is something considering. They will see more at the local elections.

Still not listening or getting it. Don’t ‘over interpret’ bollocks, they deserve it though. Just so arrogant. Still.

If you look at the last GE result and assume the majority of Muslims voted Labour last time based on their huge winning majority, and then look at the ethnic split in that constituency and assume that the majority of Muslims are now voting Green then that explains nearly all of the swing.

I appreciate in reality it won’t be quite as simple and clear cut as that but the modest number of non Muslim voters shifting from Labour to Green really will be a drop in the ocean compared to the mass ethnic based shift.

One thing is for sure, politics in the UK will now get very ugly for a very long time. Whether people like it or not we are going to end up with sectarian politics and I fear we are going to have to live through that process before a lot of people appreciate just how bad that is.

Depending how long that takes and what the demographic split looks like at the end of it will dictate the long term future of our country.

As you say this is supposition at the moment. Even taking the idea that more Muslim may have voted for the Greens, this does not mean they did this because of Gaza, OR that Gaza was the main factor in their decision.

Screaming "A dangerous Muslim sectarianism has emerged", as Reform are now is not right or helpful and will create more division.

Again out of order. Criticise on policy but don't bring in mental health into the discussion like this because it does have those connotations attached to that word.. Disgusting

Happy to take the word lunatic out. The rest still stands - this is the party of absolute misogynistic fools who hold women in utter contempt.

HopSpringsEternal · 27/02/2026 07:09

This wasn't about Gaza predominantly. I live here and know what many people's thoughts were. Many Labour voters went Green for several reasons a) Fuck you Starmer for not letting Burnham stand b) Fuck off Reform, not letting racists win c) Fuck off Labour for not having a clear vision d)specific policies such as Gaza, .
Also Labour and Reform ran a horribly negative campaign. Hannah was localish, funny and a good speaker. Hers was a message of hope.

Well, I really hope that isn’t replicated across the country in a general election. The Greens would completely wreck the country, their policies are not workable and they have no understanding of the economy.

I had never heard of family voting - which is illegal - but apparently it's going on all over Gorton.
None of this is good

I wasn't familiar with the term 'family voting' either but in some perhaps more subtle ways, I think it's always gone on. My 99 year old neighbour told me she always voted the same way - which is the way her husband did when he was alive. He died almost 30 years ago.

I think his ideas to fix the economy are brilliant. For far too long there’s been a huge inequality and he plans to address that and improve the lives of everyone. His plans make perfect sense. People will
say million / billionaires will just leave but I expect Brexit made a lot leave and we didn’t really hear about it then ! It’s a last ditch attempt to make people think this sort of plan to tax the super rich can’t work but it can. They can’t all just leave with all their assets it’s a workable plan and now people know of course they can see the sense in voting Green.

We’re electing a member of Parliament, for Christ’s sake. That used to mean something.

Yep, makes me what to support them more. Long term Labour voter here and l’m 62. They don’t strike me as rabble. They seem much more eloquent and cultured than Reform.

‘Eloquent and cultured’ they’re all white and middle class.

Things are far from perfect as it is and we are not changing direction. Greens offer a clear and logical plan to halt and reverse the decline.

Well exactly.

Far too many MPs have no idea of the difference and little idea of how to run an economy. It’s very odd to me how unskilled some can be.

The Greens are hard left now.

Their ‘plan’ is to tax billionaires.

Do you know how long their money could prop up our economy if we confiscated all their wealth (not just taxed them more)?

7 months. Thats all.

Well then, if that’s your honest and informed opinion, we really are screwed.

He thinks we can write off our debt to the Bank of England like it’s free money and doesn’t seem aware that we have borrowed from overseas markets.

He thinks we can double our debt like Japan but doesn’t know why that’s a bad idea.

He only speaks in soundbites. I imagine you hear those and think it sounds fab. Please do some actual research in to what he’s proposing. It is actual student politics.

Dragonflytamer · 27/02/2026 07:16

So despite sending 1,000 activists to one constituency Labour could only get third place in one of 50 strongest seats. They are heading for wipe out. It wasn't even close in the end.

It’s interesting how I feel ‘family voting’ will become a big thing. Basically anything to discredit a win that wasn’t wanted by certain people so the media come up with a buzzword to try and dilute the success blaming it on something like this

The difference is that the husband isn’t enforcing it, because he is dead.

Postal votes need to be cut right back and people arrested for enforced voting. Britain has changed and is now a corrupt country.

I have researched. My whole family have been lifelong Labour supporters. We’ve all joined the Green Party. My teens arent old enough to vote. They talk about politics now ! All because of the green SM campaigns. To me that’s amazing.
