Anyone have any tips? He’s been inconsolable waking up in the night all night and I feel awful I can’t help him. He’s had OTC medicine, we’ve been trying a warm flannel on his ear but he’s not a fan of the sensation even though I think it’s taking the edge off.

any other remedies I should know?!

What doesn't he like about the warm flannel? Are you dry heating it or wet heating it? Woukd he tolerate a (warm only) hot water bottle or wheat friend?

I'd talk to a pharmacist.

if it was MY ear I'd try warm olive oil in a dropper bottle & lying in that side. Then get them syringed.

Obviously some pain relief -calpol?

I suffered from them all the time as a child, a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel/pillowcase or similar is the closest thing to relief, I can remember the agony. Bless him, I hope he feels better soon.

I used to put about a teacup/ half a mug of table salt into a little muslin bag and heat it in the microwave, then hold the heated salt bag against the ear for about ten minutes.

This would be while waiting for a doctor's appointment.

He needs antibiotics.

Please do not put anything in the ears in case of perforation. If you press the head behind his ear is it more painful? Alternate calpol and ibrophan. You may find lying down makes it worse. Elevating his head can help too. Hot water bottles are a god send. A prescribing chemist can sort antibodies out if gp waits are long.
If he enjoys water stick them in a bath to help with distractions but being careful to not get water in thr ears

Keep him propped up. The reason he has severe pain and can't sleep is because lying flat increases the pain enormously due to the structure of a child's middle ear.
Pain killers and a warm pack will help.
Doctors are very reluctant to give ABx but I think he should have someone look in his ear. You might have more success getting a nurse appointment.

Had ear ache myself recently and paracetamol was really effective. Find it doesn’t help with headaches but really worked for ear ache. Every 4 hours as it wore off I took again.
