What's going on with my tummy...and how long will it last? TMI!

I'm just back from a foreign holiday, very nice too. Weather was warm and sunny but not hot.

On the penultimate evening I enjoyed a nice dinner and a couple of glasses of wine, had a good evening, but by the time I got to bed had a terrible headache, aching limbs and awful nausea, although I was never actually sick. Hot and cold flashes.

During the night I woke and realised that although I was still in pain, the nausea had passed, so took some paracetamol and went back to sleep. By morning I felt tired, but a lot better, but when presented with food, which I thought I wanted, found I couldn't eat more than a few mouthfuls. During the afternoon I had a couple of bouts of mild diarrhoea. By evening I felt dreadful again. Not sick but headachy and aching limbs.

Next morning (the day of the flight home) I felt fine, had a beautiful lunch on the beach, handled the flight without needing the loo, although stools still a bit loose, only a couple of times during the day.

Today, day 4, I feel Ok in myself, am eating again, the aching has gone, but I am on the loo constantly, with very liquid, watery stools.

Whatever it is is working it's way out. You must have got mildish fp from something from the holiday. Drink loads of water and if you're having lots of diarrhea take immodium. Though it's kind of good to get it all out I'd have thought.
Hopefully you'll feel better and then normal in a couple days. If you feel worse call the GP.

Possible food poisoning possible stomach bug,

if you were me I’d say you accidentally ate dairy without realising.

This sounds like the normal course for gastroenteritis - usually the nausea and feeling rotten settle first, but diarrhoea can go on for days or even weeks. Best to just wait it out and make sure you’re staying hydrated.

Could be worth checking for gardia? Can be ruled out with a stools test
