I am going through a really hard time for various reasons.
I have recently turned to a more spiritual side of life to see me through… tarot etc. I just woke up with the word Diablo so strong in my mind that I immediately wrote it in my phone notes. It was SO strong this feeling to write it down and acknowledge it. I wrote it multiple times. I did it at 4am and I’ve just woke up and googled and it means ‘devil’ and is a force for bad 😳
I’ve literally written it in my phone and how important it is to me. Freaking out a little. Any ideas?

Kindly OP , I think you’re giving it too much thought.

I woke up certain it was Saturday but it doesn’t make it so.

If you have been looking at Tarot and things it was probably on your mind already.

I would just move on from it, it doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

And I say this as someone who enjoys Tarot readings.

You’re thinking about my DS! He sometimes does street theatre and uses a lot of circus skills. Be warned, next week you’ll probably wake up thinking didgeridoo…..
I literally opened the thread because diabolos have been significant in my life since DS was 5!!

Tarot is demonic so not surprising.

Please just stop doing Tarot.

Tarot is not demonic. Tarot is a party game.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 25/02/2026 08:02

It's also a brand of wine from Chile. In the nicest way possible maybe get outside and go for a walk, enjoy nature, etc instead of tarot.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/02/2026 08:03

Stop messing about with tarot, ouija and other stuff. Even very seasoned occultists realised long ago that enlightenment does not involve base communication with the low elementals that are attracted by these practices.

Gliblet · 25/02/2026 08:15

If you're going to do tarot, do it well. The 15th major arcana card, named The Devil in some tarot decks, doesn't represent evil, it represents powerlessness - it might be interpreted as addiction, helplessness, loss of agency. If you draw the devil, or death, or the lovers you need to look beyond the literal, the meanings are never as simple as the images or names of the cards. Get yourself a decent guide book (Collins Gem is a good cheap one) or look at something like the Biddy tarot website.

The other thing you need to keep front and centre in your mind is that divination aids like tarot, scrying, tealeaves or runes have absolutely no power of their own. They give you something to focus on and can help you make sense of and interpret your own thoughts or feelings but they don't put the thoughts into your head. If you wake up thinking about something it's likely you've either dreamed about it, or seen it recently but not consciously processed the thought (our brains do a lot of unconscious processing while we sleep). There's as much chance that waking up thinking 'diablo' comes from seeing a hotsauce commercial as from anywhere else.

aveeeno · 25/02/2026 08:19

it's not 'base communication with low elements', for fuck's sake. It's a card game. OP, I'm sorry you're scared, but just imagine you'd woken up thinking about the phrase 'Boggle' or 'Community Chest' instead.

itsthetea · 25/02/2026 08:23

Isn’t it a toy that is a bit of string and a thing that you can roll and flip ? Sounds much more fun and healthy too . You need a bit of fun in your life

ananasfritz · 25/02/2026 08:31

If you woke up with the word "diablo" strong in your mind, it's probably residue fro dreams and not anything to do with tarot. In dream analysis, what would matter is what "diablo" means TO YOU - and it sounds like you didn't know the meaning in Spanish before you looked it up. Could it have been in your head for another (mundane) reason - for example, the Diablo series of online games from Blizzard have been in the news for the past few weeks? You may also have seen or heard 'El Diablo' mentioned if you've been following the news of extreme unrest in Mexico over the last few days - it's the common code name for Edgar Veytia, one of the architects (and sometimes considered THE architect) of the current situation with narcoterrorism in Mexico.

Exactly this.

Diablo is a frequently used brand name, as someone else said. It’s a tool brand in the US, it’s a bog standard wine, it’s a computer game, it’s a brand of sugar-free confectionary. It’s a character in the Marvel universe. The woman who wrote the film Juno is called Diablo Cody. And who knows what else. Satan is not trying to possess you via a card game.

mindutopia · 25/02/2026 09:04

I think you’ve just seen it somewhere and it got stuck in your mind. I was just reading there was a guy on BBC breakfast with the surname Diablo yesterday morning. Totally random as I saw an article on Facebook about it like an hour ago and it stuck in my head because it was such an interesting name.

If you’re reading lots of spiritual stuff the algorithm will be sending you more, so I think your brain will have seen it in a post or in the news or whatever just before bed. I don’t think it’s a sign evil forces are out to get you.

Whatthefuuck · 25/02/2026 09:11

Thank you for those that have sent sensible replies. I never once said I thought demons or evil forces were out to get me. Isn’t this what a ‘chat’ forum is about, to be able to…….chat about things?

What struck me was the way that I woke up with such a need to write it down. I didn’t know the meaning beforehand and just fell back asleep. When I woke up again I remembered so googled and was a bit startled!

Yes. Could absolutely be this. You just don’t realise what’s filtering into your brain.
I think it was the strength of the message to immediately write it down that has left me a bit weirded out!

Thank you so much for this reply. Will certainly look at the book you mentioned.
When I say I’ve been into tarot….. I just mean I had a read and it was so scarily accurate it has prompted me to look at other avenues for self help/healing etc. I’m not obsessively drawing or looking at cards! But obviously I wonder if it had an influence. I’ve never had such a strong reaction to a dream.
Your reply is exactly what Mumsnet ‘chat’ should be….. a place where people can chat without judgement and get different perspectives.

Don’t be completely absurd.

Tell that to my DS who is an expert with a Diablo. He would be very offended by “toy” and “bit of string” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tarot is not demonic , they are simply a tool to hone your intuition and give your mind clarity on a situation you are trying to process .

We all have our own beliefs and religions. Would you tell a muslim person their beliefs are absurd? Hopefully you would keep your mouth closed.

Yes. This is how I see it and turning to a more spiritual side has definitely helped me process a lot these last couple of months. It was just a bizarre experience that I wanted to chat about. I’ve never had such a vivid feeling to write down a word. Especially one I don’t know! Although I appreciate I may have subconsciously heard it.

I don’t know why anybody bothers opening/replying on this thread if it’s not something that remotely interests them or that they can’t make an intelligent contribution to.
