Coolest Band Instrument?

I was chatting with my clearly deluded workmates earlier, and two of them were quite wrongly under the impression that drummers were the coolest ones in a band. It's obviously the singer first, then instrument-wise it's Lead Guitar - Rhythm Guitar - Keyboard - Bass - Drummer. Then if French - Accordion, but we're not going there today.

I mean, yes, lead singers are Cool, but only if your definition of cool is basic. It's much cooler to march to the beat of your own drum.

Nah saxophone

MonsteraDeliciosa · 24/02/2026 20:06

Sorry, drummers are the best.

Sax comes between Keyboard and Bass.

OP, my DH is a drummer in an amateur band so he’d be made up to hear that!! I think it’s the singer - drummers hide at the back.

Davros · 24/02/2026 20:24

Drummers all the way and they have the reputation of being a bit bonkers like goalkeepers. What’s not to like

Hedjwitch · 24/02/2026 20:27

Has to be bass. DS is a bassist and definitely cool.

Mysterian · 24/02/2026 20:27

What's not to like?

"Great gig guys! You sling your guitars in the van then spend half an hour helping me dismantle all this metalwork, carry it out, and pack it away neatly."

Bass. Always wanted to be Tina Weymouth. If I could guarantee no one could to hear me or walk in on me, I think I'd love to learn to play bass.

SargeMarge · 24/02/2026 20:31

I think you’ll find that it’s not an instrument at all, but actually The Official Band Dancer.

If any of you know The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, then you’ll get that.

He was a roadie, but was underage and wasn’t allowed in the venues so the band said he was actually a member of the band so he could get in, and they had to have him on stage so he became the official dancer for the band and is still doing it now. It’s fantastic.

Yes I know the Bosstones and agree. See also: Bez.

And Chaz Smash.
you didn’t say anything about the logistics so I discount your drum dismantling objection

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 24/02/2026 21:50

'you can't just up and leave me, I'm a singer in a band! Well I like drummers baby, you're not my bag'

Good enough for Kylie is good enough for me! 😂

(But actually, it's the sax)

hexsnidgett · 24/02/2026 21:52

Bass obviously.

Babsandherwabs · 24/02/2026 21:55

Definitely bass! As a singer having worked with many bands……. Bassists always SO cool and really nice with zero arrogance. Oof 🥵

ThePoshUns · 24/02/2026 22:46

Drummer or bass guitarist

Poppy61 · 24/02/2026 22:49

Bassist and drummer. They keep it all together.

LoserWinner · 24/02/2026 22:57

I’m not interested if there isn’t a sax.
