I’m not sure what to think of this story: 'I reported rape in Hong Kong, now I could face prison' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvg899dkrgno

Basically, a women alleged that she was raped in Hing Kong. She then sought money from the accused attacker (seeking compensation that was previously offered). When she went to the police about the rape they didn’t press any charges. Instead, the women had been charged with blackmail

My default is to believe any woman that accuses a man of rape / sexual assault. However, it seems clear in this case that she was trying to extort money from the man which puts her integrity into doubt

Isabel Rose is seen wearing a black top and a small nose ring, sits facing the camera indoors.

Just to add, I think the most likely scenario is that she was raped, then tried to “seek compensation” to not go to the police. I guess this still makes her guilty of blackmail and should still face the consequences.

Yes this is difficult OP.

She certainly was misguided to ask the guy for the compensation. It sounds as though he probably offered it to her in the first place for the very reason that he knew it would put her in the wrong in the eyes of the law. And would at the very least make her allegations of rape look less genuine .

I think if you germs taped your best course of action is to go straight to the police, any further comms with the rapist will just be used against you .... I've read this many times sadly 😥
