Please help me identify an actor!

This is going to drive me demented now. JR here with the grey hair (AI pic) reminds me of a slimmer version of an actor if you squint a bit and I just can't remember his name. He's Northern, poss Yorkshire, often plays coppers or wrong 'uns, mostly seen him in police/crime type things, generally not comedies, probably in his 70s now. Who the f is he?! Aaagh!

You’re welcome! You did give a pretty good description of him though which helped - although I never thought of him as resembling JR before. But now looking at the younger picture of him and your JR picture they almost look like they could be related!

Early doors is the best

I know! As soon as I saw the picture I thought, oh he looks like... him... that actor...whatsisface....who is he?! I never watched Early Doors so dont really associate him with comedy.
