How often do you wash your cushion covers and throws?

How often are we all washing sofa throw type cushions and throw blankets please? Not the actual sofa cushion covers as our sofa has fixed seat and back cushions which I hoover weekly with the upholstery attachment.
Washed mine today as the suns out and a good breeze so they will dry quickly on the line, think last time I washed the cushion covers was last June during the heatwave, throws/blankets washed every couple of months.

I have dogs so the throws are washed every couple of weeks. I normally spray my cushion covers with a freshner and wash every six months, removable covers on the sofas are washed every spring and re-proofed.

I have 2 dogs, and one in particular likes to sleep on cushions not designed for him!!! So i pop mine in the wash every fortnight.

When something spills. No dogs or anything to make a mess on them, so it's not something that needs doing often.

Every month or so (messy pets, and anyway I like the fresh smell).

I don't have any throws but I wash cushions covers once a year in Spring, unless needed sooner.

Mine insist on sitting on me - I probably don't even need to do the throws that often!

We don’t have pets, maybe the 8 months between cushion cover washes isn’t so shameful after all!

Probably twice a year for throws, less for cushions unless grubby. We have a small dog but she doesn't really sit on any of them. When dh moved in he came with an elderly cat which was a nightmare and I was washing it all a hell of a lot then.

Teenagerantruns · 23/02/2026 12:35

Throws probably monthly, when anything spills, or if l need something to maket a load of washing.
Cushion covers, maybe twice a year? I know l washed them last june, not done it since, probably should.

FakeTwix · 23/02/2026 12:37

The Organised Mum Method says you should do them weekly....I don't.....but I do try to do them every few weeks because of dogs....

Miranda65 · 23/02/2026 12:43

We're supposed to wash them?! 😂

Olderandwiserpossibly · 23/02/2026 12:52

I don't have any throws on my furniture atm . I don't have any pets and I wash cushion covers " as required" .

At my previous home I had a couple of really heavy, quite expensive beautiful throws on the two settees we had - a 3 seater bed settee and a 2 seater settee, no arm chairs. I wanted to put the throws away and have different throws on for a change so I took them to be dry cleaned before storing them because they couldn't be washed. The dry cleaners couldn't give me an immediate price for cleaning them so I left them there while they prepared an estimate for the cost. When I went back to get the estimate they had actually cleaned them and the cost was £150! And this was a few years back before inflation bit! Because the arrangement had been to give me an estimate and I would never have agreed to have them cleaned at that price they offered to let me pay a fraction of the price. So these throws are currently sitting in a cupboard of my present home. They are too nice to throw away but I don't want to actually use them because I'm too worried to use them incase they get dirty

You'll be telling me I should wash curtains too.

idrinkandiknowthings · 23/02/2026 13:35

About once a month, both! Which is unusual for me because I'm a total slob 😅

DramaAlpaca · 23/02/2026 13:55

I wash our throws regularly because we have a dog. Cushion covers get done only very occasionally.

ShodAndShadySenators · 23/02/2026 14:03

Not regularly; only when they look a bit grubby, or have a stain of some sort on them, or it occurs to me they haven't been done in a loooong time and are due a freshen up.

These are much easier than walls. As a kid I had no idea that walls and ceilings got grubby and needed a clean. I did notice that light fixtures got dusty and needed going over, but walls..? Didn't have a scooby.

Cushions aren't washable so never, but no pets and I dont eat in my living room.

Throws every few months, a bit longer in winter.
