Where to stay N.Yorks?

I am driving DS to catterick in a few weeks
looking for somewhere to stay the night before

options are Thirsk or Ripon??

open to suggestions if anyone has been or lives nearby and can recommend a nice hotel

If you want a posh B&B, The Old Coach House in North Stainley, Ripon, is lovely. Or Masham - nice little market town.

Cheap and cheerful - 'Spoons in Ripon is very nice!

Sorry saw you said nice hotel, Northallerton has a few about 20 min drive to catterick, ‘Northallerton inn’ ‘ golden lion’

It’ll be me, DP and DS
So looking for 2 rooms somewhere with a nice bar & restaurant or close to local pub / restaurant.

premier inn is fine as long as there’s somewhere nice to have a few beers & food

both the ones in Northallerton have a bar and a restaurant

The Ripon Inn - family member with kids and dog stay there frequently. Has a restaurant and bar, walking distance to town.

are you coming from the north or the south?
Also consider Richmond and Bedale.

The White Bear at Masham is lovely, great food and beautiful rooms.

Helmsley is lovely. Feversham or Black Swan. It’s not too far from Thirsk

The spoons in Thirsk also has rooms.
