Hi,

we did a Zip wire activity this weekend that requires us to be weighed. Ds, 15 weighed 11st5lb which shocked me. He’s 6 foot. I’d say he looks ‘normal’ weight wise. Is this a heavy weight for his age?

He's a full grown man. Bmi is bang on for height and weight.

Idontspeakgermansorry · 22/02/2026 18:52

I weigh about 5 pounds less as a 6ft tall woman, with a healthy lower-end BMI, so he sounds fine to me.

Papyrophile · 22/02/2026 18:53

I think it's quite heavy for his height. My DS is also 6 foot and weighs about 11 stone, so about 140lb but he works as a contract gardener digging for eight hours most days. He looks thin but solidly built.

11 stone is 154 pounds. The OPs son only weighs 5 pounds more and has a perfectly healthy BMI, as does yours.

That is skinny not heavy

Theboredpanda · 22/02/2026 18:57

I weight 11st 5lbs too but I’m a 5’8” woman. I thought I was a pretty normal weight - my bmi is 23 and I’m a size 12, so if anything I’d say that’s a low weight for a 6ft male. If you want to know the answer check the NHS child bmi checker. Assuming he’s not an elite athlete or extremely muscular it should give an accurate answer

IamTheEggWoman · 22/02/2026 18:59

Why were you shocked? According to the charts that is a normal bmi.

EatYourDamnPie · 22/02/2026 19:00

His weight is fine. Even if you can’t trust your eyes, just put those measurements in the nhs bmi calculator. He comes up at 80th centile and a healthy weight.

Papyrophile · 22/02/2026 19:00

It's his age, rather than his weight, that fusses me.

His height will contribute a lot more than his age.
