What to pack for South Africa in late March

I’m going to South Africa in late March, with the itinerary being quite mixed- safari, some time in rural areas plus time in Cape Town and Johannesburg and the wine regions.

Google is telling me to pack layers for cool evenings and wind chill, but that it could be up to 35 degrees.

Any advice on what kind of clothes I’ll need would be so appreciated!

Every time I go I always pack warm clothes and never need them. Whatever you need to wear on the plane from the uk will suffice coldness wise.

I went late February and wore three quarter length trousers, short sleeve tops and packed a light weight jacket that I didn’t wear.

February and October are my usual months.
If you are taking early morning safaris or night ones you’ll want something warm to pop on - I usually take a thin cashmere type poncho which reaches over my knees when I sit in the truck.
Coastal areas could be a bit breezy at times. Inland not so much.
Layers and a very thin kagoule type waterproof is our usual way to go.

Daytime will be lovely and warm but not unbearably hot as it’s their Autumn. Early mornings and evenings will feel considerably cooler so definitely pack some warm tops and jacket.

I was thinking about going for lots of linen type trousers and t-shirts, with jacket for evenings, plus cargos and fleece for safari. Does this sound about right? Plus one pair of sandals, one pair of trainers and one pair of hiking shoes.
