My ear canal is swollen I think

I’ve got a small amount of spots on my tonsils, not felt ill, at all, just hurts when I swallow. The pain seemed to subside but last night it came back and this time my left ear is painful too when I swallow, my ear hole feels tender, a little warm and swollen. Has anyone had this kind of thing before ?

Could be anything. Could be as simple as a cold, or tonsillitis. My daughter is recovering from a bout of tonsillitis now and she complained of sore throat (with blisters) and a blocked ear.

Was she poorly with it ? I haven’t felt unwell, but dh now has spots and he is lying on the sofa whimpering lol

You don’t think it might be mumps do you?

I regularly get a swollen ear if my throat is very sore and I find swollen ears a hell of a lot more painful than a sore throat, even one that feels as though I've swallowed glass.

Ears and throat (and nose) are all connected.

No she wasn’t poorly. No temperature. She only got antibiotics because her uvula swelled and had a huge blister on it.

Mumps ??

Just suggested it as I had unilateral internal ear swelling with mumps and white spots on my tonsils at the same time. Could well just be an ear and throat infection but you said dh has the same and it’s unusual for an ear/throat infection to be infectious??? But guess you could both have a bad cold with ear and throat involvement?

Yes I suppose it does seem a coincidence but dh has always suffered terribly with his tonsils, he should’ve had them out really ! I need get doors so it’s unusual for me but as I said I don’t feel poorly with it, just a thick ear !

Warm compress on the ear does help relieve pain.

Ok, so another time I had a similar ear issue not related to mumps and I got antibiotic ear drops which I seem to remember made a massive difference. I knew when it was time for another dose as the pain would be building up again, I might be wrong but you might be able to get them from a pharmacy without seeing a doctor.
