Acid reflux?

TMI so don’t read if you’re eating

been to the GP today with various symptoms including near fainting, air hunger, tired all the time, generally feeling shit. Had a mass of bloods done and waiting on results

i forgot what happened the other day and today. When I woke up, and I get out of bed, it’s like my throat is filled with acid vomit and it’s burning like mad and takes ages to settle. Is this reflux? Never had it before. And what can you take for it?

Get some peptac liquid from the chemists it’s better than gaviscon. I have severe reflux and was told by the hospital after an endoscopy to take it.

I’ve got lansoprazole in the house if that would work? I had it as a stomach protector when I was on naproxen

@voidcat can I ask how you're feeling now and did you get to the bottom of this?

Ignore if this is intrusive but did you need this because of the endoscopy ? And was it any good the pet stuff ?

Bloods, ECG, 24hr ECG, blood pressure, tilt table test and then a beta blocker trial
the beta blockers stopped the symptoms in 30 mins

@voidcat how bad was your air hunger? This is my main symptom and is at rest and when active and sometimes it gets distressing because I feel like I can't take a full breath.
Had ECG, blood, chest Xray, echo (normal), waiting on 7 day holter monitor results now

Alternativelyviewed · 27/07/2026 12:10

It was the recommendation after the endoscopy. They told me to use peptac to try and control symptoms and it is really good. I had really awful chest pain one day (found it hard to breeze it wax so bad) and I was worried about it being my heart. Peptac helped it immediately. If I have a flare up i take it morning and night.

Didn't they check for anything else re stomach acid ?
.eg bacterial infections ?

It really does help, I get the mint version but they have aniseed if you prefer.

I had this feeling a couple of weeks ago. Two days later I was admitted to hospital with severe stomach pain - turns out I had an acute infection in my gall bladder.
May not be the same as yourself but worth considering.

Awful. A fan on my face full blast is the only thing that helped so I recommend trying that. It was all the time

Interesting to read this as I’m experiencing several of these symptoms - the air hunger, tight chest, extreme tiredness, just not feeling ‘right’. I know I have a hiatus hernia and that can cause all these if it’s pressing on the lungs, but 2 endoscopies I’ve had both confirmed it was a small one, and I don’t really have any digestive issues with it.
I was more worried about a heart problem really.

Just had a chest X-ray, ECG and full bloods. All normal. Agree that the air hunger/breathlessness is horrible.

Allseeingallknowing · 27/07/2026 13:58

Same here ,on omeprazole 40 mg a day. I have a huge hiatus hernia sitting in my chest

HazelRedandblue000 · 27/07/2026 14:32

@Vinculum sorry to hear that. So you don't think the hernia are causing your symptoms?
I don't have symptoms of acid reflux really. Would the chest Xray have shown a hiatus hernia if it was pressing on my lungs?
I'm going to get more blood done, such as thyroid, ferritin etc but really want to get to the bottom of why I feel like I can't take a full breath of air and why I'm so tired

I'm honestly not sure @HazelRedandblue000 - apparently a small hiatus hernia can cause a lot of symptoms and a large one be totally trouble-free! TBH I'm slightly relieved it doesn’t sound as though there’s anything more sinister going on, but I've got another appointment with the doc to discuss so I'll report back.
My ferritin level is fine, though, according to the blood test results…

I thought mine was heart TBH as I felt so unwell and not panicky in myself
