Marketplace selling, posting item: advice please!

I have only ever sold things on Marketplace for collection.
I have a buyer who asked if I would post his item, which I am happy to do.
But I am clueless. Do I ask for the ££ before I post it? By bank transfer, or PayPal? Tracked post of normal?
Value about £30
thank you!

Hmmm I think the advice is not to? Better to get cash on collection.

I used to post stuff when selling on eBay and there was always a risk of seller saying it hadn’t arrived.

although that can’t be true of marketplace so maybe ignore me and see what other people say

It’s not worth the hassle I would say.

I have occasionally bought items from marketplace and paid for post and packing plus the item by PayPal , all were easy to post small items and low value ( say under 20 pounds ) never had a problem but I’m then not dodgy
i asked how much the p &p would be and they quoted me a price

Entirely depends on what you're selling and who is asking and why.

Someone who doesn’t live close enough to collect.

If they post by bank transfer and I post tracked, they can’t withdraw the money or say it wasn’t delivered?

As it isn’t E Bay can they reclaim the money if they pay by PayPal?

If I get the money before posting, what is my risk?

I don’t think there is any risk for the seller, I have bought and sold remotely a few times on marketplace. I only do it for low value items and I always use a tracking service to post to save any drama

ForLoveNotMoney · 20/02/2026 21:34

If you have a Vinted account, put it on there and have the person buy it that way

It entirely depends on how they're trying to pay you etc

Yes I should qualify that applies with a bank transfer but not with paypal

I just stick it onto eBay and direct them there. One easy transaction and both covered.
