Pink/blue jobs…

Remember Theresa May?🤣

I was wondering what default jobs do you and your partner have that buck the stereotypes. Obviously excluding being not at home or ill or insanely busy with other stuff. I do bins and invading birds and rodents, dead or alive. Anything that involves poo. I bake. He makes all hot and cold drinks. He hoovers. He cooks. He does ANYTHING which involves hammers or ladders.
Trying to think of more.

Sealant and grout in our house is a pink job.
Nappy changes were a blue job.

Emptying inside bins, pink job. Taking those bags outside. Blue job.

We have some ‘traditional’ roles and others, not so much

Pink jobs:
Laundry
Dishwasher
Sorting old clothes/toys
Gardening (planting, weeding)
Changing bedding
Putting things in/out of the attic
All gift organising/buying/wrapping

Blue jobs
Lawn mowing
Repairs
Cleaning cars
Baking
Ironing
Meal planning

Shared
Cooking
Bins
Everything else

I do nearly all DIY but am shit at anything that involves drilling so DH tends to get those jobs.

purpleygrey · 20/02/2026 10:30

My DH is a builder so naturally I do all the diy in the house because otherwise it would never get done. 🙄

I do the cooking/cleaning.
he does the garden and picks up dog shite.

We don’t officially live together but he’s here >half the time and is very proactive with household jobs.

Blue (when he’s here- I don’t save them up!!):
ironing (his, mine, my kids’)
all DIY
garden jobs- lawns, pruning etc
cleaning cars and pretty much any car job when he’s here
bins
making morning coffees
vacuuming

Pink:
all cooking, making lunches for work etc
shopping

Joint when he’s here:
cleaning
washing

I am VERY fortunate that he’s so proactive and willing to muck in. Here’s made my life so much happier in so many ways.

The only one that comes to mind for me is cooking. He cooks most days, but he’s Italian, so I don’t mind.
