Sorry in advance for the terrible drawing I hope you get the gist of it!

I live in a first floor flat, been here for over ten years, neighbour moved in below about a year ago and has completely taken over my bin shed, as in, if I put my bins in it he will remove them and just leave them anywhere on my driveway, then puts his own bins into it, leaving me absolutely nowhere to put my bins at all unless he is expecting me to line my four bins up outside my front door and climb over them when I leave my flat.. attached to my own front door on the other side is my other neighbours fence so there is literally nowhere else for them to go!

I was told when I moved in the bin shed right next to my front door was mine, downstairs neighbour uses the space behind their own gate at the side of their flat which leads into the back garden, it keeps all the bins out of sight. I have no access to this gate as in its locked with a padlock which neighbour has the key to so its not like I can use his bin shed even if I wanted to.

I pulled his bins out of my bin shed and lined them up against his fence out of the way just outside of his gate, went out, came home and my bins were scattered about on my driveway and his were back in mine.

I live alone, I'm disabled and don't have any family so nobody to help me with this, he's a single guy that constantly has other men there drinking/loud music etc and is the type to smash windows and become aggressive, Not sure what to do or where to put my own bins now. I know there's more important things going on in life but it's making me miserable.

Can you put a padlock on your bin shed?

GeishaTrumpet · 19/02/2026 20:42

Could you put a sign up? Maybe he doesn’t realise it’s for your use only.

MiaKulper · 19/02/2026 20:43

Padlock.

Your drawing looks very clear. Far better than what I could do.

ShawnaMacallister · 19/02/2026 20:44

Write him a note politely informing him that the bin shed is yours not shared. Then get a lock for the door.

Of course a padlock! Do you own or rent op?

BangFlash · 19/02/2026 20:45

Who told you it was yours? Is this rented property? Possibly he has been told the same.

Check with the letting agent, then put a lock on it or add door number stickers to make it clear.

Smartiepants79 · 19/02/2026 20:48

Check that you have the correct info. Then put a big lock on it and a proper sign saying ‘for the use of the bins from flat 2a’

Have you spoken to him at all?
