Just that really. Ive just received my diagnosis as high-masking autistic (is that the right terminology??)

I dont have anyone to talk to about it and just feel i need to decompress

Im late 20s and female...ive suspected for a while so not really surprised.

The overwhelming feeling is relief that theres a reason i find some things so hard

Feeling exhausted from the assessment, but peaceful

What do i do now....feels weird to even say it out loud...

A lot of people have been diagnosed with autism, it’s really not unusual any more so there should be plenty of support groups if you want that sort of thing

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/02/2026 17:55

I like the sound of feeling peaceful! What do you want to do? What sort of life do you want to lead?

There's a Neurodiverse Mumsnetters topic where you might find likeminded company.
Lots of people find it a bit rough in the year after diagnosis. Were you offered support?

Thatescalatedquickly2 · 19/02/2026 17:56

I’m currently waiting for an assessment.

good on you for finding out.

it doesn’t really change anything about you. I think the best thing to do is to view it as a way of better understanding yourself, so you can look after yourself better and be kinder to yourself.

since realising I am ND, I’ve found I’ve been a bit kinder to myself. Hopefully the diagnosis allows you to do that too

I absolutely love the Daily Tism podcast. I think it's called Autistic Women Oversharing.

You've probably already seen the Neurodiverse topic OP but if not, perhaps check it out.

Congratulations OP! I found my diagnosis brought up a real mix of feelings. Some relief, elation, but as I processed more, it also brought grief, shame and even anger at times. Several years on I find, like a previous poster, that I am a lot kinder to myself and my mental health is improved.

Ignore the rude and odd posts. Of course it's something you want to discuss: it's a huge event!
