Mine is amongst others that carbonara should only ever be made with long pasta, none of your penne, or fusili nonsense.

Pets are better than people.

Someone who drinks decaf coffee in the morning is basically a walking bright red flag.

People who like other peoples children are odd.

I agree.

Although I’ll allow lemon on fish.

Yes l forgot about lemon and fish, l dint mind that, my mum used to make a werid cassrole with chicken and banana, apprently it was carriabean, ( the 70's) put me right of any warm fruit with meat.

bigliz · 19/02/2026 15:48

Cardigans which button down the back are ridiculous and hideous.

Jumpers (for adults) with buttons across the shoulder aren't far behind (what are we, grown up toddlers with big heads?)

No no no. Mint is great it's fucking orange and chocolate that's an abomination 🤨

Exactly this

I don't think people should breed dogs for profit. If someone's dog has a litter, I don't think they should be sold, rather given away, although I guess if someone insists on paying for the puppy that's OK.
I meant in the normal common-sense scenario of someone deciding they want a dog and going to a breeder; I think people should go to shelters instead.

Do you know how much it costs to raise a litter responsibly!? Last litter I sold - and I have one every three years or so - I made £25K (10 puppies were sold). I had to take over three months of work (unpaid) for it. Once I factored in my usual salary (which obviously I need to be able to live), costs for raising that litter etc, my 'profit' at the end was £5K. £5K for 8 weeks of sleepness nights (literally sleeping 1-2- hours if I was lucky), round the clock attention, not leaving my house for nearly two weeks etc. Raising a litter well and ethically is harder than raising a child.

I've done both. Including at the same time.

The problem is not bad breeders. The problem is idiots who support them.

Bundleflower · 19/02/2026 15:38

But if someone is only accepting a dog because it’s free then it’s unlikely they seriously want the dog or can afford its care? Responsibly breeding a litter from a health tested bitch and stud, raising the puppies well and ensuring both the high & stud are accomplished in their respective fields is expensive. Why shouldn’t costs be met for that? Obviously I’m not talking about when two random people decide to breed their dogs together to make £50 in their kitchen but when people do it properly.

I don't think getting a shelter dog is 'accepting a dog because it’s free' Confused; it's a conscious choice to rehome a dog in need. And as an aside I think a lot of shelters ask for a fee to cover vaccinations etc.

I know more than one person who can certainly afford dog care and have bought puppies, but have not bothered to train/socialise them properly and are therefore not responsible owners. Having money and seriously wanting a dog doesn't automatically mean someone is a good owner.

CharlotteSometimeslikesanafternoonnap · 19/02/2026 15:50

Smoking dope in public should be illegal.

People who wear pyjamas/dressing gowns to go to the shop (or, in the case of the school where I work) do the school run are lazy, lazy people. I judge them.

It should be compulsory to read with your child at least several times a week.

olives are food of the devil and should be banned. Along with raw onions and Terry's Chocolate Oranges.

None of my nephews or nieces have ever called me auntie - I have a perfectly good christian name they use.

Also hate the words husband and wife and refuse to use either of them. We all have a perfectly good name you were given at birth - why not use that rather than silly titles!!

Mine - amongst others - is that mint and chocolate do not belong together, it is absolutely vile, and is has 100% the same effect as when we were kids, brushed our teeth and then snuck a cheeky bite of a chocolate in, still.

We need a dislike button for things like this!

After eights and mint choc chip ice cream are some of the best foods ever invented!!

ConstanzeMozart · 19/02/2026 15:46

If you mean, if dogs don't breed they'll die out, well obviously I'm aware of that. I just find it reprehensible when there are so many in shelters.

Nah. I’m getting a new dog soon. I want a beautiful intelligent golden retriever like my last dog; I don’t want an ugly, traumatised, yappy, untrained, staffie cross that has been dumped by some previous neglectful owner. I’ll be paying a breeder for the privilege.

It’s neglectful owners that are the problem. And giving puppies away free as you are (bizarrely) suggesting would just make more and more of these.

GreatAuntytobe · 19/02/2026 15:53

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks@@TheHungryHungryLandsharkswhy do you do it then? and why do you put your poor dog through all that stress? I can understand if a dog has got pregnant accidentally but why would you purposefully put your poor animal through all that?

But surely you can see that if puppies weee being handed out for free… the chances of people taking on animals but not being able to afford them exponentially increases @ConstanzeMozart

Surely??

It's a fucking paninO.

It's eSpresso.

And Italian food doesn't need any 'new takes' or 'fusion'. Just invent new food if you want it.

Yes and in the same vein it’s a latte (rhymes with cat) not a lartte (rhymes with tart). Italians pronounce it as latte not lartte. Porca miseria.

Human beings cannot change their gender. Ever.

Coriander is the devils leaf and tastes of soap.

FULLY in agreement!!
About both!!
but need to point out that the greek (i believe it’s greek, could be latin🤭) name for coriander, is derived from the word for…bedbugs!! so now you know why it really is an evil leaf….(coriander seed is, ridiculously, fairly pleasant 😆)

Also need say oranges in any form, were never meant to be eaten with either chocolate or toast.

But I was clearly responding to this part of your post which wasn’t about shelters

Yorkshire puddings have absolutely no place on Christmas Dinner.

You're crazy.
They belong on any form of toast dinner!

ImFineItsAllFine · 19/02/2026 15:54

All dogs smell, just some smell (much) more than others. Owners just stop being able to smell them after a while.

Tacohill · 19/02/2026 15:56

Similar to @ConstanzeMozart I believe that owning any pet should require a license.

And that it should be illegal to breed your dog unless you have a specific breeders license.
Neutering your pet should be a legal requirement.

No pets should be sold on Facebook or gumtree and more funding should be given to rescues to take on unwanted pets.

Too many pets are used purely as money making machines and/or are abused and neglected because they’re too easy to get.

I disagree.

You want a mother to not use the bathroom because she has a 6 month old baby?

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 19/02/2026 15:57

Life expectancy in the past wasn't low because everyone dropped dead at (example) 40. You weren't old aged at 40. It was low because so many children died before they were 5. Survive childhood and you had a very good chance of getting to actual old age.
This annoys me greatly.
