I’ve signed up to a personal trainer (in January- yes I know NY resolutions are shit!) and paid in advance for two sessions (per month - as that’s all I can afford 😳) also I’ve been billed Feb and March already - but I’ve not yet paid for a couple of reasons

We’re now over half way through Feb, and I’ve only had one session so far (and even that was just talking about health/diet and a few exercises to see my current fitness) as she has either had to cancel or reschedule…

Am due a session today, but she’s just text to say she can’t make it!

I’m a bit pissed off, as I work FT and have responsibilities too. I’ve had to work extra hours to make up time to fit the session into my workday (bonus extra long lunch for me today!)

I’m a crap adult, and socially awkward, so am I within reason to just ask for the money back for today session and find another trainer? I can’t really afford to lose money (hence why I’ve not paid for the ongoing future sessions yet)

I guess this maybe more AIBU, but that room can be vicious 😳

thanks 🙂🙏

She sounds useless as a personal trainer. Find a new one that is actually committed to helping you

What does your contract say about cancelled or rearranged sessions?

At two per month, you should have had 3 sessions so far. A good PT will cover diet, rest etc so I don't think that was a waste, but you are already 2 sessions (out of 3!) down on what you've paid for.

BruceLeTerror · 18/02/2026 08:55

There is no contract in place…
Am not saying the first session was a waste…
Just disappointed to have been let down again today for the third time…

Would I be unreasonable to ask for a refund for today session? 😳

Not unreasonable, no. Or you could ask for written confirmation that these paid-for but unused sessions can be credited to you on a different date.

But whether you stick with this PT or change to a different one, you need a written contract going forwards. The fact that your PT hasn't suggested one makes me think that she's new to the game, and not very professional.

You will need to change to a different PT, it is such a personal process, it will only work if there is trust. That trust is gone now because of her being so disorganised. I bet it’s not cheap either!
