How bad is this? (I have it in my head they are thinking cancer)

I went for my smear test, first time in too long, and they have found a growth so were unable to get the smear done correctly.

I now have a scan booked for next week.

Is this normal or are they investigating for cancer? I asked the doctor and she said "it could be a multitude of things" and left it at that.

She said I would need the growth removed and tested but it is probably nothing.

Could this be something to do with the menopause? I'm mid 40s and in the thick of it just now.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Well, they are rushing because it could be cancer, but there's also a good chance of it being something else. But obviously time is of the essence if it's something ominous. Fingers crossed for you x

They have to treat all suspicious growths as cancer because if it is, the earlier the better in terms of treatment and intervention.

Please try not to worry too much Flowers

Thank you.

I had cancer a few years back and have been left with a disability relating to that. Meantime my daughter has become disabled and needs 24/7 care as well.

I don't know how I can get through this again.

I have had a dp for a few years and he has offered to move in if there's anything ominous going on, but I don't want him to move in because I'm ill and become my carer.

Hopefully they are just being super cautious and I'll be OK.

Yes, they are treating it as an urgent cancer referral, hence the scan in only a week. Is it a CT or an ultrasound?

What sort of cancer did you have previously? I have cancer and I know that once you have cancer once everything is treated as a possible recurrence in case it pops up somewhere else. This is more likely with certain cancers than with others though.
